Welcome to Episode 166. Let's talk about Losing Legacy from Dumb leadership.
Leaders are always on show.
That's one of the greatest responsibilities of a leader. Leaders are always on show. Leaders have to understand that because everything they have built will come crashing done with a single error, mistake, or crisis
Take Karen Williams, the Mayor of Redland City, where I live here in Qld. Karen has had a distinguished career in local government, being first elected as a councilor on 2004, before being elected as Mayor in 2012, 2016 and again in 2020. Her legacy should be of one who oversaw a lot of growth in the city in terms of population, and business while maintaining liveability.
Her re-election twice would stand testament to her respect amongst the local community and her popularity as a leader.

One of the pervasuive thing that has occuured in the world is the de-evolution of leadership during this prolonger COVID crisis, especially in Australia. That may seem a harsh judgement for the political leaders who proudly proclaim they have kept use safe during this extended crisis. But the reality is that regardless of the strategy that has been used, the end is no closer. NO Closer. The states get locked down on a whisper of covid cases, WA has fundamentally become the new Hutt River Province and seceded from Australia.

Welcome to 109 of the Dumb Leaders Podcast, Your library of lessons to better your leadership, and today I am heading into a touchy area. Mental Health.
This week in Australia, the story of Brent Draper, a contestant on MasterChef Australia, pulled out of the show citing mental health reasons.
I don't necessarily want to go into the specifics, except to say that his decision has been lauded as being courageous. In fact one respected commentator said the following:
"My first reaction to his decision was - Bravo Brother. He was courageous enough to admit to the judge that the peer pressure was affecting his sleep, cooking, and pretty much everything.

Welcome to 110 of The Dumb Leaders Podcast. Recently on the ABC here in Australia, i listened to an academic speak to recent research on how trust is low when it comes to government authorities. The decline of trust has largely been accelerated through the pandemic and the confused and ambiguous messaging around it. The narratives being portrayed in the media, the hard-to-find statistics, the agendas of the political parties and the human collateral that is hurting in so many areas.
And here is the mindblown news flash. We have always been distrusting of the government. Its now more visible than ever.

The world is deeply hurt. Covid has created a much greater impact socially than anyone could ever have imagined. The larger companies have been remarkedly unaffected, in fact increasing profits and market share have been the norm rather than the exception, governments and beurocrats have been untouched, while small and medium enterprises have been hardest hit, industries have battled through unscathed. while Tourism and hospitality have been decimated
And during these times, the social justice messages have amplified and the celebration of the oppressed has magnified. The narrative is open in som many ways telling human beings they are inferior due to privilege and the system.
Be critical in your thinking, ask questions and find your truth

As a leader, it is your job to lead by example. You set the tone for the team, and you provide your team with the motivation and encouragement they need to work their very best. Your job is to nurture and protect that team, so that they can do their very best work.
This is something that is understood by very few managers and bosses. Instead, too many people believe that being a leader or a manager makes them infallible – and gives them a kind of supreme authority over their team.
This is why they think it’s okay to utilize a “do as I say, not as I do approach.”

Welcome to the TDL 106. Today I want to share a recent experience that occurred in my network, and I have labeled it the collision between Victimhood, Ego, and Delusion. I can't tell you, it doesn't end well.
Let's start by providing some personal definitions.
Victimhood, when you are telling yourself the story, life is unfair, it's always some else fault that you aren't getting ahead, that the world is fundamentally unfair and you blame the world for your predicament. You are the victim of your own story
Ego - can be healthy or it can be destructive, in this case, the ego and self-centredness is strong, but it's not founded on reality, it's founded on a delusional sense of importance, a delusional look at the value being brought to the world.
Mixed with the ego, is the sense of status. Creation of a job title that sounds important, but in reality isn't as. Calling yourself a senior manager doesn't make you one. Importantly the perception that perks come with title and self-importance, creates entitlement and an expectation.

Welcome to 114 of the Dumb Leaders Podcast. Jumped onto Twitter yesterday and was so surprised to see Guy Sebastian trending. I thought it had to be something with the Voice where Sebastian is a judge, but no.
Two things happened to Guy yesterday. One was a TikTok campaign that presumed that he was the person that brought Covid 19 into Australia brought about from some social media posts that placed him in Wuhan in November 2019 and his admission that he came back with flu-like systems.
But that wasn't why he was trending.
There is a campaign called #vaxthenation here in Australia, where musical and other celebrities have joined together to support the vaccination rollout. With the Vax the nation and getting the live music industry back and operating.
