Creative Reflection Series: Am I listening to myself or outside voices?
The Creative Edition Podcast
08/08/23 • 24 min
If you’re tuning in for the first time, I’m currently doing a solo series for the next few weeks called the Creative Reflection Series. The purpose of the Creative Reflection Series is to help you take the time to think and reflect about your creative career, passions, side-hustles, etc. so far.
So, if you feel like you’re ready for the next step in your creative pursuits or you’re feeling stuck and not sure where to turn next, this series is for you. I hope the different questions and exercises in the next few weeks help you find your next step or help you recognize how you’ve grown as a creator.
Today’s conversation has three main parts:
- Part 1: We’ll be chatting about examples of choosing to listen to outside voices instead of listening to yourself, your intuition, your soul, or whatever you want to call it.
- Part 2: We’ll be chatting about how to quiet those outside voices and to start learning how to listen to your own voice and intuition.
- Part 3: Reflect on ways when you have listened to your intuition.

How to Find Brands to Work With as a MicroInfluencer
The Creative Edition Podcast
11/18/20 • 23 min
Today we’re going to be sharing a few tips on how to find brands to work with as a micro-influencer.
Before we share the different ways to find brands to work with, we recommend creating a dream list of the brands you’d love to work with in the future.
Think about your niche (or niches) and think about the brands that would align with your personal brand and your audience.
Why should you first create a list of brands that you’d love to work with?
· You start to do some research on what brands would fit your brand and your audience
· You start to figure out what type of brand partner you want (small brand, start up brand, establish brand)
· You start to think about what everyday brands you use in your life and the brands that you love
The tips we cover in this episode include:
- One way to find brands to work with is to join influencer networks.
- You can pitch a brand directly.
- You can find brands to work with by leveraging your influencer work.

5 Real Life Brand Campaign Offers That We’ve Turned Down
The Creative Edition Podcast
04/28/21 • 37 min
Today, we’re sharing real life brand campaign offers we’ve turned down as a content creators. One thing we see in the influencer industry are influencers talking about how they consistently get low-ball offers for brand partnerships. We wanted to share that no matter what stage you’re at as a content creator, you’re still going to get low-ball offers BUT you will also receive opportunities that will match you at your requested rates.
Before we dive into real life examples, we want to first breakdown why brand choose to not pay or increase their marketing budgets for influencer campaigns:
Reason 1: A brand might be brand new to influencer marketing
The social media marketing team truly may have not allocated influencer marketing budget and they’re testing out working with influencers on a gifted basis.
Sometimes companies, whether they’re startups or established businesses, have to show their Chief Marketing Officers (CMOs) that influencer marketing makes sense for their business. And sometimes, that requires marketing teams to prove this out – so they’re working with either no or little influencer marketing budget.
Reason 2: There’s enough influencers willing to work on gifted basis and brand teams don’t have to spend money on sourcing or hiring influencers
Brands know content is expensive. Even if you have a photographer, a copywriter, and a social media manager in-house, you know it takes time, resources, and energy to produce content.
The first brand opportunity we discuss came into Maddy's inbox for a May 2021 campaign.
Deliverables: Take an afternoon to do an activity and showcase the brand’s sweepstakes
- (1) In-feed Instagram posts
- (2) IG stories
Budget:
- $225
- And $100 is to cover the cost of activity they wanted to showcase for this campaign, meaning the brand is only offering $125
