Join in as I speak with Michelle Guan, a medical student at David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA regarding the research she did on the effect physical activity has on the microbiome. To say Michelle is extraordinary is not enough to describe her- she graduated summa cum laude from UCLA with a degree in psychobiology and a minor in biomedical research. After graduating, she worked for a year as a clinical research associate at Cedars Sinai in the field of gastrointestinal cancers, which sparked her interest in GI. Throughout medical school, Michelle has worked on research projects understanding how lifestyle factors alter the brain-gut microbiome axis to contribute to increased susceptibility to obesity and also changes in mental health. She has presented her work at multiple national conferences and is planning on pursuing a career in gastroenterology, all before her fourth year in medical school! The Brain Food Podcast - Fitness & Bodybuilding as a Young 20s Working Woman
play

10/21/24 • 29 min

Welcome back for episode 23! I've been following my guest, Neha, for about two years now on Instagram, watching her bodybuilding journey while she balances her corporate job. As another young Indian woman, it's been so inspiring to see her pursue her passion for fitness in the media space, where it is so rare to see young Indian girls. Neha created her account because, growing up, she never saw girls who looked like her in media, and she wanted to become a representation that she lacked. As a bodybuilder, model, and speaker while working a full-time corporate job, Neha proves it is possible to pursue dreams and goals that are unconventional and that you are not defined by one experience or role.
