E28: E28: Learn about our journey to discover clean-crafted wine & becoming Scout & Cellar consultants
05/20/20 • 15 min
So what is clean-crafted wine?
-Grown naturally with no synthetic pesticides -Bottled consciously—no added sugars, chemical preservatives, or anything else -Nothing added that isn’t found in nature -Clean-Crafted makes us unique—no one else can claim Clean-CraftedTM We love that every bottle of clean-crafted wine is independently tested twice to make sure it is free of sugars, chemical preservatives, or anything else that isn’t found in nature. We’re not suggesting you should start drinking daily but for those who do choose to enjoy wine we are excited to share a cleaner option that can be delivered right to your door. What we also love about Scout & Cellar is that you can choose which varieties you want to buy and you can order at your leisure. We also love that there are a variety of price points and types of wine that vary based on the season (check out their great rosé collection).

Bonus Episode: A simple and approachable way to meditation with Betsy Weiner
In this bonus episode we chat with Betsy Weiner about meditation and how a daily meditation practice is so incredibly beneficial (and especially during these challenging times). We learn about how to set-up a sacred space, and really, how simple meditation can be. Betsy guides us through a wonderful meditation during the show that will leave you calm and relaxed.
Betsy is an inspiring teacher, guide and leader and we so enjoyed having her on the show.
Background: Betsy began practicing yoga regularly in 1991 and has been teaching yoga, meditation, and yoga nidra since 2001; leading classes and workshops in multiple yogic disciplines. Betsy holds thousands of hours of training as well as being a Certified 500 HR E-RYT teacher through the Yoga Alliance. She has facilitated and mentored teacher trainees at the Yoga Center of Minneapolis for over 17 years, as well as still co-facilitating teacher training at the Yoga Center Retreat in St Louis Park, MN, and M. Power Yoga in Baltimore, MD. Betsy met her teacher, Yogarupa Rod Stryker in 2005 and is one of only 5 ParaYoga Teachers in the state of Minnesota; currently a Level II Certified ParaYoga teacher; one of just 27 in the world. She holds a certification from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in Health and Wellness Coaching. Betsy is also a Four Desires coach (Dharma or Soul Coach), which is a systematic approach to uncover the clients' deepest purpose, what their limiting beliefs are, and how to create a life of fulfillment and meaning. She leads numerous workshops as well as working one on one with clients in the practices of meditation, mindfulness, stress reduction, and building a life of intuition and intention. Betsy founded Amrita Health and Wellness as the culmination of her years of teaching and mentoring and uses the modalities of yoga, integrative and intuitive nutrition, as well as mindfulness practices, to guide her clients towards their highest purpose and their best life.

E29: A deep dive into Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine with healer Monica Helland
Today's episode with Monica Helland was so much fun! We took a field trip to Fusion Life Spa in Deephaven, MN. It is such a beautiful and relaxing space with the cutest gift shop. You just want to hang out there all day. And the massages and facials are pretty awesome as well - in addition to Monica's services of course!
This episode was recorded shortly before the Coronavirus Pandemic exploded and stay at home orders were put in place. Please keep this in mind as you listen to the epsiode.
Monica is a second generation acupuncturist and herbalist with a warm and innovative approach to whole body health. Monica is Minneapolis’ active expert in digestive health, fertility, and cosmetic acupuncture. Her approach to healing stems from revered and ancient remedies. Along with her clinical experience, she brings to her practice a deeply intuitive and gentle approach to acupuncture and Eastern medicine.
Licensed in acupuncture by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice, and nationally board-certified from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), Monica graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Masters Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the Minnesota College of Oriental Medicine at Northwestern Health Sciences University in 2011. As of January 2019 Monica has begun working toward her Doctoral degree with the Pacific College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Her journey into Traditional Chinese Medicine began at a young age when Monica’s aunt, Diana Gross, L.Ac., a well-respected acupuncturist in Minneapolis, introduced her to the medicine. Over the years, Monica personally received great benefit from Diana’s treatments and a wealth of knowledge from her teachings. Monica says, “Today I continue the legacy my aunt Diana Gross, L.Ac. began many years ago, and now I, too, am an ambassador of this great medicine.”
Monica lives with her husband Charles, son Otis, and Siberian forest cats Sofia and Viggo in Plymouth, MN.
In today's conversation, we dive into Traditional Chinese Medicine and specifically acupuncture. We learn how Monica's services can treat and heal many conditions including: pain, digestive health, women's fertility/women's health, insomnia, allergies, Menopause, ADHD and much more. She even works in cosmetic acupuncture which we really want to learn more about and we are planning to have Monica back for an entire episode on this topic!
Monica also explains how she helps patients determine what the underlying root problem is of the patients "dis-ease" in the body. She does this through a variety of methods. Monica shares a few stories of her patient's experiences with acupuncture and how it has helped them.
We also discuss illness prevention and building immunity whether it pertains to the common flu or a Coronavirus and she leaves us with some tips and tricks on how to be on top of seasonal allergies. We also discuss "Liver Season" and a few tips on how to get your liver up and going for the day.
We wrap-up talking about ear seeds. Ear seeds are small seeds used to stimulate pressure points in your ear. They're a type of auriculotherapy, which refers to acupressure or acupuncture focused on the ear. They're based on the same general principles as acupuncture.
