Talk With Tori

I am thrilled to have my genuine, authentic, and funny Delaney O’Brien as my guest for episode 5 of the Talk with Tori podcast!

Delaney is a Carolina girl and currently lives in Charleston, SC where she is in her first year of teaching. We talk about our love for doodles, memories of being neighbors in Auburn, holidays, living in the Carolinas, teaching in a pandemic, and more!

Delaney tells us her story of suddenly losing her older sister, Darby, and how this affected their family’s life. She brings hope and comfort to those that are experiencing loss and ways to support others. She shares how the joy of the Lord has brought her family through the hardest times of their life. Delaney talks about the importance of having a village and how to keep living on the legacy of those you have lost. It was the best reminder that heaven is the ultimate goal!

4: Tilting Your Traditions with Carrie Dodson

I can’t wait for you to learn from my precious and gracious friend, Carrie Dodson this week on episode 4 of the Talk with Tori podcast!

Carrie is compassionate, creative, and the queen of all things hosting, parties, and traditions! She lives and works in Nashville, TN at LifeWay and is a true family girl with unwavering faith. We chat about Disney, turning 30, working in the pandemic, travel, favorite holidays, The Bachelor, brothers, Schitts Creek, books (check out her reading reviews list), and all things about cooking and hosting.

Carrie gives great insight on pivoting family traditions when life changes unexpectedly, while also keeping many traditions alive in a new space with new people. She shares her story about how the world she knew changed in a way she never expected, but she has still been able to keep the joy and remind us that new memories are not always a bad thing. This is so encouraging in a season where so many things we have done for holidays and celebrations year after year must be adjusted. She is filled with so much knowledge and goodness about hope. She inspires everyone to have the courage and confidence to open our space to create community and to welcome imperfections in our home. She is filled with incredible tips on how to make hosting easy, special, simple, and FUN.

6: Secrets to 70 Years of Marriage with my Grandparents

I am thrilled to have my grandparents, Allen and Mary Ann Nichols as my guests for episode 6 of Talk with Tori podcast!

Today is their 70th wedding anniversary – what a milestone!!!

My grandparents are in their 90s and have been married 70 years, so they have many life experiences. They share stories from their childhood, careers, and advice for marriage and parenting. My Grandpa and Grandma have always brought me so much wisdom over the years, and I cannot wait for you to learn from them, too. They discuss simple things that they do to show each other they care. Life will be difficult, but it is all about how you handle it while learning and growing along the way.

Grandpa and Grandma tell the story about the hardest time of their life when their son (my Uncle Darrell) was injured at a young age, and the difficult decisions that this brought to their lives. They both are open about what is important in life and how they have kept a strong marriage and family. My grandparents explain that partnership is about commitment, investment, and always doing more than you need to. Grandpa and Grandma also share about the gift of family, time together, and how to welcome others.

Whether you are single, a newlywed, or married for 70 years like they have been, this episode will inspire you, bring an appreciation for others in your life, and make you want to be a better person.

My grandmother’s recommendations as a teacher for 42 years:

Every child needs to be on a stage.

Every child needs to attend an out of state field trip.
