Taking Back America's Podcast - Interview with Atlanta @Braves 2009 Draft Pick Mycal Jones @mlb @espn
play

03/26/11 • 16 min

From SB Nation: Mycal Jones was drafted by the Braves in the fourth round in 2009 out of junior college. Despite being a college product, he was drafted as a raw infielder with great athleticism. That showed in his first full season in 2010. Jones struggled at the beginning of the season, but a big turnaround in May sparked what became a good year for him. His numbers at A- Rome are a product of his early slump, but the tear promoted him to A+ Myrtle Beach, not to mention he needed to be on the move at 23 years old. He had the most plate appearances at the Beach, where his numbers continued to improve all around, especially his on-base stats. A .361 wOBA and 122 wRC+ is great to see for Jones. He earned a promotion to AA Mississippi for the last week of the season, where he will return to begin 2011. Jones' numbers spell out a raw hitter with decent on-base ability, decent zone discipline, a little more pop that you'd expect and smart base stealing ability. He will never have great walk rates and may strike out more than you'd like to see, but he keeps the on-base and power numbers respectable. Whether that will continue in the upper levels remains to be seen. Jones is very raw on defense, showing good range but shaky motions and hands, resulting in a lot of errors. These things are fairly easy to improve on with time, and Jones is in the process of learning second base to further his development and time. Giving him the chance to learn a new position will only help his defense. With time, Jones should become a good defensive infielder, but not great. Jones relies on his athleticism to further his development. His raw ability on offense and defense takes time to adjust, and it will only be tougher for him in AA. At 24 years old this season, he doesn't have a ton of time to toil between AA and AAA. If he can adjust quickly, there's no reason he can't be a candidate for a utility role by 2012. But there is a chance he could get stuck. Three Things to Look For in 2011: 1) AA Jump 2) Defense 3) OBP Destination in 2011: All at AA; chance of late promotion to AAA ETA: 2012 Ceiling: Starting 2B or SS My Prediction: Starting 2B for a few years; Utility Infielder the rest To find out more about Mycal Jones or to track his progress please visit: http://www.talkingchop.com/2010/7/8/1557849/interview-with-braves-shortstop http://twitter.com/mykejones21 http://atlanta.sbnation.com/atlanta-braves/2011/1/5/1916134/atlanta-braves-top-30-prospects-no-14-mycal-jones

From Halt the Assaults Website: About UsThe Free Enterprise Alliance is leading the campaign to Halt the Assault on America’s free enterprise system. The Free Enterprise Alliance is the action arm for small businesses, entrepreneurs, and other advocates of limited government, open and fair (and intense) competition, and the economically sound principles upon which America was built. At the heart of the Free Enterprise Alliance’s mission is the belief that while we need government for common sense regulations, the scales have tipped too far in favor of government intrusion and its advocates. The Free Enterprise Alliance believes small business and entrepreneurs grow jobs and our economy, not union bosses and federal bureaucrats. The Free Enterprise Alliance was originally founded by the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. to advocate for the voice of small business as well as open and fair competition. Since its inception, it has fought for these goals through research, outreach, and national TV, radio, and billboard campaigns. The Free Enterprise Alliance launched the Halt The Assault campaign in 2010 to give voice to Americans’ frustration over the attack on long-held values of fair play, looking out for the little guy, and the realization that capitalism is a good thing. ABC is a national trade association representing 25,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms in 77 chapters across the United States. ABC’s membership represents all specialties within the U.S. construction industry and is comprised primarily of firms that perform work in the industrial and commercial sectors of the industry. Halt The Assault Bloggers Chris Singerling is the director of the Free Enterprise Alliance. He has more than 10 years in political expertise and activism. He is an ardent defender of free markets, limited government, and the Michigan State Spartans. David Ashinoff is manager of the Free Enterprise Alliance, where he works on political fundraising and issue advocacy projects. Prior to joining FEA, David worked at the Republican Governors Association. David graduated from the College of William & Mary with a degree in Government. Brooke Frankenfield currently serves as the Legislative Assistant for Associated Builders & Contractors in Arlington, VA, working on federal labor policy and coordinating the ABC Grassroots committee as well as all ABC National Grassroots efforts. Sean Thurman currently serves as Manager of Regulatory Affairs for ABC, where he is responsible for the association’s federal agency relations and regulatory advocacy efforts. He is involved in a range of issues, including labor relations, safety and health, environmental protection and procurement, and is an outspoken defender of small business concerns. Sean graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in political science. David Nace is an owner of an ABC member construction company. In addition, he writes articles on free markets and limited government for Liberty Features and other publications. He graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with an undergraduate degree in Engineering and graduate degree in Business Administration. From http://heritageaction.com/about-heritage-action/ About Heritage Action Heritage Action for America is needed now more than ever. For nearly four decades, The Heritage Foundation has provided conservative leadership for America. What began as a visionary startup policy shop has blossomed into the most influential think tank in the nation. Along the way, Heritage adapted to market pressures to maintain its position as the world’s most cutting-edge and influential research institution. In 2010, just as millions of Americans concerned about the direction of our country have sought new ways to get involved in fighting for America’s future, The Heritage Foundation sought new ways to work towards an America where Freedom, Opportunity, Prosperity and Civil Society flourish. The answer was Heritage Action for America, an independent sister organization to the Heritage Foundation. We ensure members of Congress hear directly from their constituents, including over 700,000 members of The Heritage Foundation and millions of others around the country who believe in our principles and share our vision of America’s future. As a 501(c)(4) organization, Heritage Action for America allows unprecedented coordination and communication with concerned citizens who want to be part of the national dialogue. Our country stands at a precipice. The size and scope of the federal government is growing at unprecedented rates. The American people are increasingly aware of this and looking for more opportunities to make their voices heard and impact the decisions of their elected representatives. Heritage Action for America speaks directly to the American people in order to break through the establishment in Washington. From Tate Publishing's Website: Average Joe The Story of an Unlikely Candidate by Robert Hickman & Susanna Hickman Bartee "Do you ever find yourself shouting at the television as you listen to a politician spout ideas you know are unsound? Joe Blankenship has been doing that more and more often over the past several years, and it's his belief that someone needs to step forward and represent sound ideals for the community. Then one day, an idea presents itself: What if that someone was me? Join authors Robert Hickman and Susanna Hickman Bartee as they introduce you to Average Joe's everyman Joe Blankenship—a retired, small-town American rancher who decides to speak up and run for office just to see if the establishment will listen. Joe is no political expert, and not even his own family expects his campaign to last long. But when he begins giving speeches about how the government ought to be held to the same standards as private citizens and businesses, his message resounds with just enough people—and support—to keep him going. He may always be just an Average Joe, but it turns out that might be exactly who his community has been looking for." http://www.blogtalkradio.com/everydayradio/2011/03/02/noted-author-and-columnist-jackie-gingrich-cushman-live-9-pm-et-on-tuesday-march-1-jackiecushman From Amazon: WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE AN AMERICAN? In The Essential American: 25 Documents and Speeches Every American Should Own, Jackie Gingrich Cushman has compiled a guide to the great documents and speeches that have stood as beacons to successive generations, expressing what it is to be an American. Starting with the crucial documents of our founding, Cushman introduces and explores each speech and document in its historical context, explaining why it belongs in the American canon. Some—like General Douglas MacArthur’s immortal “Duty, Honor, Country” speech or Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address—were obvious selections. Others are less well-known, like Captain Mosley Baker’s speech at San Jacinto, which urged Texans fighting for their lives to “Remember the Alamo!” The Essential American: 25 Documents and Speeches Every American Should Own highlights different aspects of America’s character. Reflections on America’s origins, like Calvin Coolidge’s “Inspiration of the Declaration of Independence” and Daniel Webster’s “Discourse, Delivered at Plymouth” were delivered in times of peace and prosperity. General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s “Order of the Day” on D–Day, FDR’s address to Congress after Pearl Harbor was attacked, and President George W. Bush’s speech after 9/11 were the powerful responses of leadership to the crises of the hour." Please visit www.blogtalkradio.com/everydayRADIO for all show archives.
