Studio Chat - Pilates with Ashley | Her story + Pilates
play

01/17/23 • 70 min

Pilates at the moment seems to be a very popular option women are choosing as a way to move their body. You may have a few classes under your belt or you may be like me and have never tried it before. If you would like to know more about pilates, then this episode is for you.
I chat with Ashley, a lover of all things pilates. She has had this love affair with pilates for over 16 years. She is the proud owner of Pash Movement, a pilates studio in Fairy Meadow, NSW. Ash also teaches at her studio. She has overcome limiting beliefs, anxiety, not feeling good enough to teach and stand in front of a class.
I loved hearing about Ashleys journey and what has brought her to where she is today. From working for a King on his private yacht for a royal family in Europe then coming back to Australia working very long hours and selling vegetables at a farmers market getting up at 3.30am.

Ashley found herself at her first teacher training deep in the jungle in the beautiful Costa Rica undertaking a Balanced Body mat course. This course was taught by a Pilates guru Paige Siefferet.
We also chat about:

Pilates meets you and your body with where you are at
- Breath work, correct movement and why pelvic floor health is important
- Mind + Body connection - how to move your body correctly
- What is pilates, reformer pilates, tower pilates, mat pilates
- Fear and growth
- Pursuing your dream
- Starting a business
- Benefits of pilates
- Can pilates be for any body?
- What does self care mean to Ash

In this episode I have a great conversation with Neha Negandhi, a certified life coach and TEDx speaker from Atlanta, Georgia, as she shares her heartfelt journey towards achieving her long-held aspiration of giving a TEDx talk.
We talk about the modern challenges of loneliness and maintaining genuine human connections and explore how societal changes have impacted our sense of community and the stigma surrounding asking for help. Neha shares with us the moment she knew she had to reach out for support and started working with a therapist. I love the honesty she shared with how this felt for her and why she was committed to 'doing the work'. An episode all about understanding yourself, knowing when to pause and ask for help.

Studio Chat - Guest: Dr Emily Parke | Functional Medicine
play

06/08/22 • 58 min

In this episode I chat with Dr Emily Parke all about Functional Medicine.
Dr. Emily Parke, D.O., is a certified functional medicine doctor, board-certified in anesthesiology & pediatric anesthesiology and trained in medical acupuncture. She’s an experienced speaker in the medical and functional medicine community.

Dr. Emily Parke has supported thousands of patients on their journeys to becoming healthy, happy and symptom-free from her experience in both traditional and functional medicine for a well-rounded approach with their health.
Her credentials:

  • D.O. from Rowan University
  • Anesthesiology residency | Cleveland Clinic, Chief Resident
  • Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship | Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Chief Fellow
  • Diplomat of the Board of Anesthesiology | Board Certified in Adult and Pediatric Anesthesiology
  • Medical Acupuncture | Helm’s Medical Institute
  • Institute for Functional Medicine | Certified Practitioner
  • Kresser Institute for Functional and Evolutionary Medicine/ ADAPT Trained

In 2015 she opened Arizona Wellness Medicine where she is the founder and owner of this practice.

Functional medicine addresses the whole person, instead of a set of symptoms, by shifting the focus from disease-centric treatment to a multi-dimensional understanding of how the full spectrum of a person’s life impacts their overall wellness.
The need for functional medicine:
Increases in chronic disease demonstrate that our society is dealing with a health crisis. Traditional medicine emphasizes acute treatment for issues that have already risen, whereas functional medicine emphasizes finding and treating the causes of symptoms and disease using the following science-based strategies:

  • Nutrition
  • Exercise & movement
  • Sleep
  • Advanced laboratory testing
  • Stress management
  • Toxin reduction

Through this full-spectrum approach to each person’s total wellbeing, functional medicine offers a comprehensive solution to not only ease chronic conditions but prevent them entirely.
