60 Seconds: Magic Is Alive in the Ordinary!
03/22/21 • 1 min
Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.
A friend and colleague lost her brother to illness a short time ago. The memorial photo the family picked out shows a man, maybe middle aged, wearing a shiny blue and red zippered jacket with a Chicago Cubs logo emblazoned on the left front panel. The man is leaning against a railing of what must be Wrigley Field stadium with the baseball diamond bright green in the sunshine that’s warm on his face. From his big smile I’m betting his team is getting ready to play; maybe they’ve already won.
No matter. I see a happy man, a summer afternoon, and baseball.
There is magic in the ordinary. Look around. See it? You are magic, too.
This is the place to thrive together. Come for the stories - stay for the magic. 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: The Magical Process of Progress.
Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday with questions carefully chosen to help you collect stories in the oral tradition or spark your own writing. Either way, you'll say, "Thanks for the memories."
Some days I feel as if I’ve been in the churn forever; like I’m swishing around in Life’s great washing machine and haven’t yet gotten to the final spin cycle.
This is ‘process,’ all the steps that have to take place before some outcome can happen.
Process can feel like the mucky murky middle. But just like we need space between notes to hear the music, we need the in-between spaces where it might appear that not much, if anything, is happening except that we feel uncertain, unsettled, maybe groundless. And yet mucky, murky in-between middle of process is exactly where the magic happens as long as we are willing to wait and believe.
Story Prompt: What’s your experience of process? Share that story!
Practical Tip: The magic of stories is also in the sharing. If you wish share your story with someone or something. All that matters is you have a story.

60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: Wisdom and Integrity.
Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.
On a wall of the Comfort Room at South Whidbey Animal Clinic are these words written in script, like artwork:
"Wisdom is knowing what to do.
Integrity is knowing when to do it."
I imagine that for veterinary staff and animal owners alike those words bring a message of comfort and guidance when we are considering the best choices - not for ourselves - but for the one in our care.
I can’t help but think that these words apply as well to our own work: what we do, for whom we do it, how we serve.
Question: How do you know what to do and when to do it?
