If you were to ask Mike Shoreman what his overall message is when speaking to his audience, he would say, "breakdowns lead to breakthroughs. He is the author of "The Unbalanced Paddleboarder: Crash and RISE from Victim to Thriving Survivor." In 2019, Mike was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Disease while thriving in his paddleboarding career. In the blink of an eye, his life changed dramatically. Two days later, he entered a crisis center and began his recovery. In this episode, we talk about his journey, the importance of incremental wins, and his recovery process. He shares with us that the medical community told Mike he would never step on a paddleboard again, and less than two months after his diagnosis, Mike proved them wrong when he got back on a paddleboard. That same year, he went on to win the Speaker Slam with his speech "I Said Yes," competing against professionals, of which some were TEDx speakers. The speech went viral after being shared by both Ashton Kutcher's platform and Jay Shetty. Mike wraps up this episode by talking about his book and tells us about his plans to be the first paddleboarder with a disability to cross international waters from the USA to Canada. He is an inspiration helping others to see that their breakdowns can become their breakthroughs. Welcome to episode 127.
