Frankly Freelance: How to Work with Chronic Fatigue with Franky Shanahan
Explicit content warning
05/17/22 • 55 min
In this month’s Frankly Freelance episode I’m joined by experienced freelance copywriter and digital content creator Franky Shanahan who was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in 2016.
Franky, also known as Love Audrey – her business name and long-time online moniker – creates beautiful, persuasive copy for clients as well as coaching them on how to create their own. For over ten years, Franky has written everything from brochures to blog posts and PR pitches to product packaging.
As well as being a long-time fan of Franky’s artfully composed and lovingly written Instagram Stories, I really wanted to speak to her about how she dealt with learning to live with a disability – both to raise awareness of the condition and spotlight someone who I believe does a fantastic job at weaving her reality into the way she runs her business.
We chatted in-depth about:
✹ Franky’s journey as a freelancer
✹ Raising small children around a freelance business
✹ Parenting and mother guilt
✹ Franky’s life-changing hospital visit and CFS diagnosis
✹ Navigating clients and deadlines with a chronic illness
✹ Managing energy levels and limitations day-to-day
✹ How Instagram Stories has helped Franky show up consistently for over 5 years

4 Steps to Creating More Accountability in Your Business
Do you struggle to work ON your business because you’re working heavily IN your business, i.e. devoting all your time and energy to client work? In this episode I’m here to walk you through the ways in which you can stop putting your own business to the bottom of the list and start creating progress on your goals one step at a time.
Accountability for your personal and business growth is, I believe, just as important as having a website, a social media presence and even a decent laptop! Without accountability we can end up boarding the busy bus every day and forgetting the very reason why we went freelance in the first place – to create space, freedom and time to do the things that bring us joy.
In this episode I share 4 ways that you can start creating more accountability in your business, including:
✹ What accountability is and my philosophy on how this should work for you
✹ Whom and what you’re going to need to help you stay accountable
✹ The importance of verbalising your goals
✹ Why visualising your goals is a powerful step to achieving them
