Six Degrees of WTF - 2021 Halloween Special: Guess the Final Girl
play

10/06/21 • 72 min

Ah, the beloved final girl. Slasher flicks wouldn't be the same without them, so we are dedicating the entire first episode of our 2021 month of Halloween fun to them.
Both O'Dell and Erin recount their horror movie through the final girl's eyes, and at the end of the story, the other has to guess which movie it came from.
O'Dell kicks things off with the tale of Chris Higgins who survived a blood bath at her family's lake house in 1982. Erin continues with the story of Dana Polk, who also survived an extremely strange and bloody incident at a cabin. O'Dell ends it all with the story of Carly Jones who, along with her brother, narrowly escaped a ghost town that had been overtaken by crazy twin brothers.
It's October, y'all. Let the month of terror begin!

Six Degrees of WTF - Episode 61: I See Your True Colors
play

05/11/22 • 74 min

On this episodes our virtual true crime road trips lead us to Massachusetts and Arkansas.
After covering a listener write-in and a couple of updates, O'Dell kicks things off with the murder of Rita Hester, a transgendered woman who was stabbed 20 times. Her murder sparked the Transgender Day of Awareness, but her killer has never been apprehended.
Erin follows up with a story that sounds like it could have been the inspiration for Ozark. Two teen boys went out hunting one night and never came home. Their bodies were hit by a train because they had been placed on railroad tracks. Authorities deemed it an accident, but it obviously wasn't. Corruption runs deep on this case!
We close things out with an in memoriam about a death caused by a beard, a palette cleanser about mistaken identity and a shower thought.
Chapters:
  • 00:00 - Intro
  • 00:42 - Stabby Cool Kid write-in and updates
  • 07:48 - O'Dell's Case: Who Murdered Rita Hester?
  • 30:34 - Erin's Case: What Really Happened to Dan Henry & Kevin Ives?
  • 01:06:41 - In Memoriam: Trim Your Beard
  • 01:08:52 - Palette Cleanser: Mistaken Identity

Six Degrees of WTF - Episode 46: Do You Hear What I Hear?
play

12/15/21 • 69 min

...because what we hear a lot of on this episode are people talking out both sides of their mouths.
Erin kicks things off with the decades old unsolved mystery of the disappearance of Lauria Bible and Ashley Freeman, two high school girls from Oklahoma who disappeared a few days before New Year's Eve in 1999. Ashley's parents were found murdered and the home was set ablaze, but the girls have never been found and nobody can be trusted - not even law enforcement.
O'Dell then tells the story of 19-year-old Rhonda Hinson, who was shot and killed while driving home from a Christmas Party. The bullet went through the trunk of her moving car, through the driver's seat and pierced her heart. Was it an assassin, a crazy accident or a really lucky shot made by someone who had it out for her? Recently, an investigative journalist has started asking questions of those closest to Rhonda, and a lot of fingers are being pointed. Will the case finally be solved?
Erin closes things out with a story about a man who was killed by tampons and then O'Dell cleanses the palette with a surprise visit from Santa. We're each given 24-hours to experience anything we want with zero repercussions, and not surprisingly, we both choose very different things.
Chapters:
  • 00:00 - Intro
  • 02:12: Erin's Story - What Happened to Lauria Bible & Ashley Freeman?
  • 18:38 - O'Dell's Story: Who Shot Rhonda Hinson?
  • 57:51 - In Memoriam: Death by Tampon
  • 01:02:01 - Cleanse the palette: Santa's 24-Hour Gift

Six Degrees of WTF - Episode 43: Over the River & Through the Woods
play

11/24/21 • 72 min

Tis the season! Before we dive into weeks of "the war on Christmas", Hallmark movies, overspending, and "holiday cheer", we have to get through a day of overeating, arguing with family about stuff that divides us... and football. If you're into none of that, or if you need an escape, we're here to help.
Today we kick things off with us talking about our friendship and how some folks have written in asking if we're being hostile or intentionally "mean" to one another. The answer is neither. We just enjoy razzing one another.
O'Dell then kicks off true crime story time with the strange disappearance of the Skelton brothers. 9-year-old Andrew, 7-year-old Alexander and 5-year-old Tanner went missing after spending Thanksgiving day with their father in 2010. Eleven years later, the boys are still missing, and the father's story continues to change.
Erin then talks about Paul Merhige, a man who attended Thanksgviing dinner with his family and then proceeded to shoot 4 of them dead. Did he snap, or had he been planning this for a while? We close things out with another reminder that if death wants you, he will find you one way or another which leads to a couple of hypothetical/what if questions before we sign off.
Chapters:
  • 00:00 - Intro
  • 00:42 - Do we like one another?
  • 05:39 - Aiden Fucci Update
  • 10:19 - O'Dell's Story: The Missing Skelton Brothers
  • 41:19 - Erin's Story: Paul Merhige - Murderer
  • 58:42- WTF-ery: Death Will Find You
  • 1:03:03 - Cleansing the palette with some what ifs?

On this episode, O'Dell closes out his true crime/urban legends/movies series with a bang. He covers the cases of Ed & Lorraine Warren that inspired the movies in the "The Conjuring" universe.
Next, Erin covers the mysterious death of Bethany Deaton. She was part of an emerging cult, and had entered into a sham marriage. Her death appeared to be a suicide, but it seems very suspicious.
We then close out the show with an In Memoriam filled with all kinds of karma.
