
Empowering Transformation: Hon. Margaret Muhanga Mugisa's Journey from Cattle Keeper to Parliament as a Courageous Female Politician

In this episode of SheCentre: The Female Podcast, I had the privilege of hosting Honorable Margaret Muhanga Mugisa, a Member of Parliament for Fort Portal North Division in Fort Portal Tourism City, Uganda and the Minister of State for Health in Charge of Primary Health Care. Honorable Margaret shares with us her incredible journey, starting from a small town called Kanyandahi in Fort Portal, where she grew up in a family of cattle keepers. With their father relying on cattle rearing as their main source of income, Margaret and her siblings learned the value of hard work and contributing to the family's success from an early age.
During her formative years, Margaret underwent basic military training, which was encouraged by the current president to empower women and equip them with the confidence to face any challenges, including potential military coups. Following her studies, Margaret ventured into journalism and worked as a political news correspondent for the New Vision Uganda. Her extensive experience and deep understanding of politics motivated her to embark on her own journey in politics.
Though faced with initial defeat, Margaret's determination led her to persist, eventually winning a seat in parliament. She openly acknowledges the existence of patriarchy but emphasizes how she never allowed it to hinder her career progression. In this episode, we delve into the challenges women in politics face and how Margaret has managed to overcome them. She also sheds light on the specific issues women in her constituency encounter, such as childhood marriages, and she encourages women to pursue their purpose in life relentlessly, becoming economically empowered and defying any obstacles they may face.

In this episode of SheCentre: The Female Podcast, we are excited to have our first international guest, Talita Estrela, a Brazilian living in Germany. Talita shares her remarkable journey and how she overcame various challenges to build a successful career and business. From feeling different as a child due to her African descent to maturing faster than her peers, Talita's father provided her with books that fueled her entrepreneurial spirit from a young age. She shares how she wisely used a blank check from her grandmother to start selling chocolates at school, marking the beginning of her entrepreneurial journey.
Despite facing setbacks, such as not being able to speak English fluently and missing out on a life-changing internship opportunity, Talita remained determined and took steps to learn the language. Her passion for exploring the world led her to travel frequently and work as an au pair in Europe. Eventually, she sold her company and pursued an MBA in Germany, where she encountered new challenges in learning in a foreign language.
Undeterred, Talita secured a job in a multinational company and even negotiated a significant salary increase, relying on her faith in God. However, the pandemic brought unexpected job loss, prompting Talita to embark on a new business venture. She started selling stationery online and eventually established her current company, allesgut-edu.com, as a relocation agent helping students and job seekers move to Germany.
Throughout her journey, Talita attributes her success to her unwavering faith in God and being led by her spirit. Join us as we delve into Talita's inspiring story, learning valuable lessons about resilience, self-belief, and the power of faith.
