This week on ScaryCrit, Lauren and Jared first flip open the Negronomicon to coverages of some notable passings in the entertainment sphere, a certain Netflix show that completely upended our (and the world's) weekend and the very important IATSE strike.
Afterwards, we took a visit back to high school for the comedy-drama horror cult classic, Jennifer's Body (2009). From Diablo Cody's insanely quotable and classic screenplay, toxic co-dependency, some academic resources and the fact that this movie was a giant table-flip on the male gaze, there's a lot to gain sustenance from here. In E34, your hosts Jared and Lauren crack open the Negronomicon to talk about the fiasco that was the Emmys and a remake no one asked for before they get into the 2021 release Werewolves Within, a uniquely hilarious horror-comedy take on the which-one-of-us-isn't-like-the-other genre. From the way the film uses archetypes to its advantage, the rapid-fire humor, Finn's interesting characterization and the question of "What is considered horror?" being raised, there's a lot to ponder with a film that critics have called "Clue with werewolves."
