88. All About India with Comedian Ben Vyas

I recently watched the film Manjhi – The Mountain Man, about Dashrath Manjhi, a real life Indian man who carved a road through a mountain using only hand tools over the course of 22 years to make a road for his village to get to a nearby bigger village, reducing the travel time from 2 hours to around 40 minutes. I've always been fascinated with India in general, especially after growing up watching Russell Peters specials, and years ago I watched a special by Hamish And Andy of Australia where they explored India. I'm just curious about other countries in general so Ben Vyas, a local comedian on the scene was kind enough to join me on the pod and chat about India, Mountain Man, Ganesh, his Hindu faith in general and just any other questions I had in general about the country. We ended up getting really deep at the end and I realized in the middle of my conversation with Ben why this Mountain Man story has resonated with me so much. I hope you enjoy it!

87. Darren Shan Nostalgia with Hamish Mabon-Ross
Get your tickets to my Panic! At The Buffet comedy taping on the 26th of October 2024 HERE
In this episode, I brought back my regular compadre, Hamish Mabon-Ross to discuss the Young Adult horror vampire novel series that we both enjoyed in our youth - The Saga of Darren Shan! I had been feeling really nostalgic for this series as of late and when Hame mentioned that he was also familiar with it, I thought that's it! We need to do an episode of the pod talking about it. We mostly talk about his Cirque Du Freak / Vampire's Assistant / Tunnels of Blood books, but we also do talk about his later work, The Demonata and Zom-B towards the end. It's a bit of a mess in terms of continuity, we jump all over the place as random bits and pieces spark memories about other bits of the books, but I think you'll enjoy it all the same.
I know Darren includes podcasts and videos about his work occasionally in his newsletter the Shanville Monthly so if you're reading this Darren, thanks for the incredible books, I enjoyed them immensely as a kid and I'm sure they must have a part in shaping my personality as I grew up. Keep up the great work!
Cover art featuring my actual books.
The books, in case you're interested in checking them out are: The Saga of Darren Shan (also known as the Cirque Du Freak series
Vampire Blood Trilogy: Cirque Du Freak, The Vampire's Assistant, Tunnels of Blood.
Vampire Rites Trilogy: Vampire Mountain, Trials of Death, The Vampire Prince.
Vampire War Trilogy: Hunters of the Dusk, Allies of the Night, Killers of the Dawn.
Vampire Destiny Trilogy: The Lake of Souls, Lord of the Shadows, Sons of Destiny.
The Demonata: Lord Loss, Demon Thief, Slawter, Bec, Blood Beast, Demon Apocalypse, Death's Shadow, Wolf Island, Dark Calling, Hell's Heroes.
And then there's the Zom-B series but I'm too lazy to grab all the individual titles, give it a read, it's cool stuff! The Thin Executioner is awesome too.

89. Comedian Courtney Dawson
Wowza what a guest I have for you this week! It's TV's Courtney Dawson! If you follow comedy then Courtney will be very familiar to you. I was lucky enough to catch Courtney while she was down for a few days and recorded this hilarious podcast. One of the funniest people in NZ on and off stage. We talked about things such as: how does a white person give a Pepeha? Her father's history of doing Mr Beast-like challenges and especially his latest one - Poppy's Comedy Club opened in his very own garage. Courtney tells us about a potentially paranormal experience she had, and about the time she foiled a vintage clothing store robbery, with a whole pile of laughs along the way. Hope you enjoy!
Like Courtney said at the end: just google her, otherwise find her on Instagram at: https://www.instagram.com/cdawsoxx/
