Room to Grow Podcast with Emily Gough

Stop trying to keep something or someone that doesn't want to be kept.

Not everyone can come with you to the next phase of your life. That’s ok. It's part of allowing the flow of life trying to hang onto a relationship of any kind with someone who isn't invested and feeling the f*ck yes.

Because we only want f*ck yes people in our lives.

Friends, lovers, partners, clients, whatever that looks like for you.

We're here for the real deal. No wishy washy BS around here.

Today we're talking:

  • The mutual reciprocity that's required for healthy, fulfilling relationships - but that does *not* mean keeping a scoreboard
  • Allowing the flow of life but letting go of the people that aren't willing, able or meant to come with us on their own journey. And recognizing that releasing allows them to deepen into their own journey, as well. It's the ultimate act of love.
  • Showing up and communicating in ways that the version of you 5 years from now will be proud of.
  • Building your inner circle and vetting people to see if they'll be a good fit in your life (and vice versa)
  • Bringing more curiosity and playfulness into our relationships

undefined - Self Love & Loneliness: Learning to Like Yourself

Self Love & Loneliness: Learning to Like Yourself

We hear a lot about the journey to self-love.

But that starts with actually *liking* yourself first, and doing this work can feel lonely at times.

As humans, one of the biggest battles we all face is one with loneliness.

It's one of the things that keeps us in mediocre relationships far past their expiry date, because being in the company of another seems in theory to be better than being alone.

But relationships with others are not the cure to loneliness.

That's something each of us has to face at multiple points in our own journeys, and it can come in different forms.

Here’s what I want you to know about loneliness:

The better acquainted you become with it, the less you will fear it.

The more you will accept that loneliness will always reappear at one time or another, that there’s no avoiding it.

The better you’ll begin to understand what the loneliness is trying to teach you.

The more open you will be to hear the wisdom loneliness is whispering into your ear.

And the more appreciative you’ll be of a deep sense of connection with the people you love most whenever loneliness decides to part ways for a time.

There's freedom to be found in being able to come face to face with your loneliness.

And it may reveal beautiful new sides of you that you'd never before experienced and teach you like yourself even more.

The Sacred Liminal Space: Between the Familiar & Completely Unknown

The liminal space is the in-between, the transitionary period, that awkward and uncomfortable phase when you're on the precipice of moving towards the new, but haven't quite arrived yet.

It's when you're facing the unknowns and your destination, or at the very least the path to get there, leaves you with far more questions than answers. The moments when you're so ready to close the old chapter but the new isn't quite ready, testing your patience.

And yet, there is so much growth to be found in this space.

These are the sacred grounds upon which transformation is created, when you're closer than ever to find what you've been searching for, letting go of everything that's been holding you back, or being more open to love.

This is where the magic happens, even when it feels like nothing is happening at all.

Today we're talking:

  • How to navigate the liminal spaces that can appear in your life
  • Practicing looking ahead with hope
  • Appreciating this period of time for all of the gifts that it offers, and why life is not on pause even when it seems nothing is changing
  • Trusting that beautiful things are unfolding you, even when you can't quite see them taking shape yet.

Please share this episode with someone who needs to hear it, and thank you for listening!
