What is Rock-n-Roll Autopsy about?

Each week on Rock-n-Roll Autopsy we use five proprietary and scientifically proven categories—gratuitous boomer-ism, excessive misogyny, wanton whiteness, malignant machismo, and culture vulturism—to examine a suspect song and determine if it is responsible for the death of rock ‘n roll.

With scalpel in hand, our fearless host attempts to trim away the bloat and mediocrity from Gun N’ Roses and Metallica’s infamously overstuffed double albums, “Use Your Illusion” and “Load/Reload” and combine what’s left into one cohesive kick-ass album of mid-nineties hard rock n’ roll. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/rocknrollautopsy/support

Podcast Q&A

Why did you start this show?

As a dyed in the wool super-fan, I couldn’t help but notice that rock ‘n roll had not only lost its once dominant position within the cultural zeitgeist, but had slipped into almost complete irrelevancy! What happened to our beloved rock ‘n roll? So, we did what any intellectually curious music nerd would do—slipped on a lab coat, grabbed a scalpel, and embarked on our journey as podcast pathologists—destined to fulfill the arduous task of performing an autopsy on the corpse of rock ‘n roll.

What do you hope listeners gain from listening to your show?

Hopefully listeners get a laugh or two and maybe learn a little bit about the song or artist in question. Also, if they’re a repeat listener and know the format, they can play along at home!

Which episode should someone start with?

If you’re new to the show, listen to episode 19, Did The Rolling Stones’ Miss You Kill Rock ‘n Roll? It’s under 30 minutes and because it’s significantly shorter than most of our episodes, it serves as a nice, bite-size sample of what we do without too much commitment from the would be listener.

Which have been your favourite episodes so far?

Dark Side of the Moondog Redux Review/Ep. 96, Farewell KISS: Rock and Roll… It’s Over!/Ep. 104, Did Devo's Mongoloid Kill Rock ‘n Roll?/Ep. 114, Did The Rolling Stones’ Brown Sugar Kill Rock ‘n Roll?/Ep. 100

Which episode are you most proud of?

I enjoyed our 100th episode. We decided to celebrate by bringing a listener and fellow podcaster (Mark from Songs That Don’t Suck) on to the show to perform an autopsy with us. I loved the dynamic that a third voice added and felt good about our ability to navigate some difficult subject matter.

What is your vision for your show?

Complete and total world domination, obviously.

What is your favourite other podcast that isn't yours?

I have to mention Songs That Don’t Suck. Mark is a great guy and doing God’s work—scouring the globe for good, new music. And I really believe Pod of Thunder is the gold standard of rock ‘n roll podcasting. Those guys are creative, funny, and deliver a consistently entertaining podcast.

How did you come up with the name for your podcast?

Being amateur pathologists who dissect rock songs, the show practically named itself.

A really fun concept that is both reverent of Rock while acknowledging its major flaws, this is a great idea for a show. Each episode is buoyed by music related news items too! Good stuff!
