Right Here! Right Now!

Right Here! Right Now!

Michael Scicchitano

RIGHT HERE! RIGHT NOW! is a brand new podcast where we remind you that being present and mindful in each of our moments is the only way to truly be able to learn. And from LEARNING comes GROWTH! A true transformation into our most authentic selves. The mindset is that we must be present and looking for the lesson in what we are experiencing - day to day; moment to moment. And one of the primary purposes of learning and growth is to take us to places we did not think were possible and to prepare us for a challenge that will make us better human beings; or the lives of our families better; even to help our colleagues and those in our charge better. Sometimes the challenges are known - so many times the challenges are a bit of a surprise. As long as we see the challenge as an opportunity, we will learn from them and carry on to better places down a path lined with lessons and teachings. We recognize in this philosophy that we have the capacity - even the responsibility - to begin again - and your NEW beginning starts RIGHT HERE! RIGHT NOW!

Today, we are reminded of what mindfulness means to each of us - to each of our moments in life. We must be compassionate and kind to ourselves knowing that we will need to constantly put ourselves back on track.

I hope to invigorate a sense of how powerful and impactful the practice of mindfulness can be for each of us. We go over some of the science behind mindfulness and we attempt to see the benefits of mindfulness in motion - meaning, how we can take the practice of sitting with our thoughts in a non-judgmental manner and how this can translate into a slower and more deliberate and calm apporach to life and the challenges that we know we will face.

Be present and be mindful!

Right Here! Right Now! - Mindful Moment - We Make It Look Easy
play

07/14/23 • 13 min

And today we are going to admire the incredible feats that we - OURSELVES - accomplish. Getting the seemingly impossible done. And the inspiration for today’s mindful moment is another poem. This poem - which I have read a bunch of times - is a succinct and precise and warm description of so many of the days that we live - so many of the days we see others are entrenched in...The poem is from the book: Self Love Poetry for Thinkers and Feelers, by Melody Godfred The Self Love Philosopher. We venture into the things we do and how we get it all done and why, perhaps, we often make it look easy! Our mindful approach to all that we do will allow us to persist and be disciplined to get it all done.

Be mindful of the work and tasks that you are doing - be present in each moment you have fulfilled what needs to be completed. Right Here! Right Now!

This week's Mindful Moment is designed to slow us all down and gives us a greater capacity to ask ourselves "what is now" as opposed to "what's next". This practice helps to ground us and keeps us present in our moments. It takes discipline and work and the awareness that I hope today's Mindful Moment helps to cultivate. Be present and be mindful! This Mindfulness Intention of Self Love is a follow up to our powerful episode on The Power of Self Love.

Let this intention find you with an open mind and an open heart during this season of love. Let this intention help you take notice of how harsh we might be on ourselves. Let this intention provide you with some mindful moments that allow you to be as compassionate to yourself as you are to others.

Let these words be a guiding principle in the path to loving ourselves a bit more richly and with an intention that allows us to love ourselves and love others more genuinely.

Welcome back to Right Here, Right Now! I'm your host, Michael Scicchitano, and today we’re diving deep into how mindfulness can help us build resilience—and even make us antifragile—in the face of life’s inevitable challenges.

In this episode, we explore:

  • The Stoic Connection: How ancient wisdom from Stoics like Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, and Epictetus can guide our modern mindfulness practice.
  • Defining Resilience: What does it mean to be resilient, and how can we cultivate this capacity to recover quickly and withstand difficulties?
  • Antifragility: Going beyond resilience, we explore the concept of growing stronger because of challenges, not in spite of them.
  • Mindfulness and Stoicism in Practice: How to integrate mindfulness techniques—like deep breathing and staying present—to respond to stress more calmly and deliberately, and how this aligns with Stoic principles of focusing on what we can control.
  • Practical Steps: Tips on how to use mindfulness and gratitude to not only survive tough times but thrive through them, transforming challenges into opportunities for growth.

This episode also features some of my favorite Stoic quotes, including the timeless wisdom from Marcus Aurelius: “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” This quote has inspired both modern psychology’s study of resilience and the notion of antifragility.

Key Takeaways:

  • Resilience is a practice, a mindset we can develop through mindful awareness of our responses to challenges.
  • Mindfulness allows us to pause, reflect, and shift our focus from what we cannot control to what we are able to control.
  • By embracing difficulties, we don’t just bounce back—we grow stronger, more adaptable, and better equipped to face life’s inevitable struggles.
  • Practical tips for cultivating resilience include mindful breathing, asking "What can I control?" in stressful moments, and practicing daily gratitude, even for the challenges that shape us.

If you're ready to take the next step in building resilience and becoming antifragile, this episode is for you. Remember to share, rate, and review the podcast to help spread the message to those who might benefit from these insights.

Thank you for being part of this incredible journey with me, and let’s continue growing and strengthening each other—Right Here, Right Now.
