EP48 - How Do I Forgive?

Relationships Inside Out

Forgiveness can be incredibly challenging and almost feel impossible. As humans, we go through many moments of pain, deceit, and being let down. As humans, we also have the choice to carry those moments with us forever or work to let them go. This is where forgiveness comes in. Do you have the tools to wholeheartedly forgive someone else, or even yourself? If not or if it is difficult for you to lean into forgiveness, let us help guide you to a calm heart and a healed soul.

Join us as we unpack forgiveness, including what it means, steps to move forward into forgiveness, and the risks of holding onto the past. Forgiveness can carry a connotation of giving up, losing control, or letting the other person off the hook. It does not have to look this way; let us tell you why and help you reshape this thinking. You deserve to drop the weight of the past and reclaim your mental peace!

If you find this episode, or any of our other episodes, helpful to you, please share with those that you love! Let us know what you think about what you want us to talk about next by emailing us at [email protected]!

In two weeks, we welcome another guest, Wendy O'Leary M. Ed, to discuss self-compassion in children. Later topics include: parenting, self-acceptance, domestic violence, premarital tips for relationship success, navigating milestones as a couple, how to have tough conversations, self-awareness in relationships, and so much more!

EP49 - Cultivating Self-Compassion in Children with Wendy O'Leary M. Ed

“You did great kiddo!”

“I can see you are hurting. Can I give you a hug?”

“It’s okay! We all make mistakes.”

“I can see you are disappointed. How can I support you right now?"

All of these statements have one thing in common: compassion. We, as parents, teach our children their inner voice, whether it is one of self-criticism or one of self-compassion. Not only do we do this in the way we speak to our children, but also in the ways in which we speak to or about ourselves in front of our children. Imagine if everyone was given kindness, compassion, and care from infancy on in each moment of their lives, including their biggest of mistakes and most painful of emotions? How might the world look different today?

Join my colleague, Dr. Greg Seibert, LMFT, and I as we welcome another guest, Wendy O'Leary, M.Ed. to discuss self-compassion in children! Wendy is a certified mindfulness meditation teacher, public speaker, and author with expertise in emotional resilience, mindfulness, and self-compassion for children and adults. Her most recent children's book, It's OK: Being Kind To Yourself When Things Feel Hard, is being released on March 28 and supports the cultivation of self-compassion for children. In this podcast, Wendy guides us through a deep dive into the cultivation of self-compassion in children and why this crucial for their well-being throughout their lives. Her insights have the potential to significantly change your child’s life, as well as your own! We all deserve care, compassion, and kindness; join us to find out how we do this effectively and significantly shape our children’s internal voices for the long haul!
