In this edition of Black History Month Special episodes, I am excited to welcome back Teleica Kirkland back to the show to share more knowledge on the history of fashion for that of the african diaspora.
I ask some of the questions sent to me from the last time teleica featured on Reggae Uprising Podcast. We also talk about the fashions of reggae, national dress of the carribean, celebratory costumes, colonial influence on our fashion and big up our trendsetting fashion designers.
Teleica Kirkland is a fashion historian, Associate Lecturer in Cultural and Historical Studies (CHS) at London College of Fashion and a PhD candidate at Goldsmiths University. She is also the founder and Creative Director of the Costume Institute of the African Diaspora (CIAD) an organisation dedicated to researching the history and culture of dress and adornment from the African Diaspora.

Black History Month Special - The History of Reggae

Send us a text

As it is Black History Month in UK, throughout October I will be doing something a little different...
As you know by now this show is all about connecting people of the diaspora through inspiration, wisdom and overstanding with some sweet Reggae music, so I had to focus the first episode in this special series on The History of Reggae.
Of coarse it is not something that can be explained in a hour show but with the help of guest Reggae specialist Kevin Delahaye aka Dicki we weave our way through some stand out points.
Delamix producer and sound engineer Dicki has worked with John Holt, Alton Ellis, Dennis Brown, Sugar Minott, Johnny Osbourne, Horace Andy, Earl 16, Anthony Johnson, Luciano, Frankie Paul, Freddie McGreggor, Tyrone Taylor, Laurel Aiken and Macka B to name but a few.

Let me know if you would like to hear more on any of the subjects covered in this series.

Black History Month Special - The History of Rastafari

Send us a text

This weeks Black History Month Special edition of Reggae Uprising Podcast is focused on The History of Rastafari.
I am so thankful that I can welcome back my previous guest Locksley Gichie of Cimarons to share his wisdom on this subject fro future generations.
We talk about its origins, traditions and the evolution of rastafari as well as his own personal experiences in the UK and Jamaica.
I know as with all of the subjects covered in the series, we can't cover everything but hope that it brings to light some insight that be shared with our community and spark a fire in you to seek more knowledge.
If you particularly enjoy a subject within this special series please get in touch via my website www.danieal.co.uk so I can look into doing a more in depth focus on it in the future.
