Planner Lifestyle Podcast - How to Use Notepads in Your Planning Regimen
play

04/30/21 • 27 min

Season 4, Episode 1

It's the start of a solo season showcasing planner basics, product trends, pretty stuff, productive stuff, and more.

A recent trend I'm seeing is an oldie but a goodie yet it feels fresh and disruptive at the same time.

It's notepads!

  • Maybe notepads can be less fuss?
  • Maybe notepads can be cheaper?
  • Maybe we just want to rip out pages, crumple them in a ball, then light them on fire when the week is over?

Whatever the case, notepads are making their resurgence with style.

Wanna start a convo about notepads? Head to Planner Lifestyle fb group

The items featured in today's show (no affiliation or list order) are as follows:

Imperfect Inspiration (I AM planner notepad)

Page Eleven Paper Goods (Wake Up and Work Daily Notepad)

Beespoked (Tear off Notepads)

Project Functional Notepad by Recollections (8 1/2" by 11" notepad with no branding and light borders)

My guest says it so well...

I am a business owner, wife, and mom to three boys. I have always wanted to own and grow a business, that is my first passion. My second passion is planning and knowing what I can do. Finally, my last passion would be learning and teaching history, especially American history.

I discovered goal planning just recently but it took me forever to find the right teacher and way. I am willing to figure things out and research until my answers are answered. Sometimes I go down the rabbit hole of researching and researching for hours at a time.

After finally having my first son, I got a degree in Business Management. Then I got my real estate license to see if I could do it and be a business owner. In my last year of being a realtor, I started a YouTube Channel called Working Mom Plans, tried to grow it but it didn’t feel like a good start. So earlier in 2020, I deleted that channel and created a new one, still using Working Mom Plans but as of June I finally changed it to something I feel is me. I am a nerd in many things, planning, computer games, books, learning everything, and crocheting.

Now 4 years later, Small Town Grace has become one of her jobs & something that helps give her a sense of purpose. Hi all! My name is Amanda. I am super passionate about diversity and inclusion, helping communities, and planning! I used to work for Yelp and my last year there really blended both of my passions together. I was able to plan, create, and facilitate a mentorship program, as well as lead some internal and external events with our employee resource groups. I am always pushing myself to diversify and get outside of my comfort zone, which is why I am opening up my Etsy shop and doing videos on Youtube by the end of this month! The Ones: Enneagram + Planner Mashup Series

Welcome to the first in a series of nine shows dedicated to the exploration of enneagram numbers in the planner community.

Each week, two people of each number will be represented in the form of a conversational interview facilitated by me, the host, Jessica McWilliams.

Enneagram Enthusiast:

Since it's the first week, I have included a helpful introduction to the enneagram that is less than 10-minutes. Our resident enneagram enthusiast Kris Adams gives a basic but robust explanation of the enneagram personality tool in today's episode. Kris outlines what we can expect from The Ones before the planner conversation begins. She'll be joining us each week to break down the characteristics of each enneagram number we feature.

She is a vocal artist and can be found at www.krisadamsvoice.com for job inquiries. Kris is an enneagram enthusiast and a mom of two grown boys and a 15-year-old daughter. She's had a career in radio/voiceovers and on-camera acting for nearly 35 years and makes her home in the South Minneapolis neighborhood she grew up in.

Enneagram Type 1: The Moral Perfectionist

Kim is a 44-year-old mother to 4 sporty, smelly, and sweet boys ranging in the ages of 8 to 20 and lucky enough to be married to her favorite person in the world who lets her play in her craft room instead of watching man movies at night. When not doing laundry, this ex-fiber arts teacher loves memory keeping and creatively plans to make sure she doesn't routinely forget someone at some sports practice! Don't let all that household testosterone fool you, this bubbly, ex-pageant girl knows her sparkle and sass which you'll find sprinkled throughout her projects and videos :) Instagram @krodesigns, YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest Blog: krodesigns.blogspot.com Email: [email protected]

Libby is the leader and co-founder of True North Trio an active planner event group based in the mid-west. You can find her adorable pups and her shenanigans on her insta: https://www.instagram.com/libby_in_wi/ She is an avid self-manicurist, crocheter, and cookie baker. You will never find Libby using anything but a horizontal planner and you will never find her posting it online.

Keep It Simple Sweetheart (KISS)

This popular phrase was coined by Kelly Johnson an engineer from Lockheed and used in the mid-1900s by mostly military personnel. Now often used in tech. industries and in advertising design. In non-commerce, it's heard as an off-the-cuff remark to express one's opinion that what is happening is too complex or "too much".

Simple vs. Easy article from Idea to Value Podcast by Nick Skillicorn

What is simple isn’t always easy.

Julie K. from Plan2Create is my planner GOALS! Or at least I really like her style. Form and function collide for a fantastic fusion of planner goodness. #colorcode

The Twos: Enneagram + Planner Mashup Series

Izzy and Caitlin share their experiences as Enneagram Type 2, The Supportive Advisor, in the planner community.

They are giving and thoughtful. They're all about relationships and how to serve those around them.

  • What happens when they serve others without time for themselves?
  • What strings are attached?
  • Are they really all that sweet?

What does it take to show love to a 2? The answer might surprise you!

Today's Guests:

Caitlin: is a planner podcaster co-host from the show Spiced Chaos but her solo endeavors can be found at Creating in Chaos. She loves her role in education and finds joy in spreading body-positive messages.

Her social links can be found on her Linktree

Issel “Izzy” Martinez: My pronouns are She/her/hers. I am a Latinx from Los Angeles who lives in San Diego. My day job is a Paraeducator (or also known as a Paraprofessional) and I absolutely love my job. I am a union activist and Vice President for my local chapter of Paraeducators. During my free time, I help with the San Diego Planner Mafia group. I love all things Disney, Planners, and kitties. I do enjoy reading social psychology books as well as expanding my knowledge in the BLM and Indigenous movements. On top of all that I already do, I decided to go back to school to study conflict resolution. I am currently mapping out how to attain my goal of having a Ph.D. as the first in my family to have that degree. My current ride or die planner is the Passion Planner Academic Weekly and the Passion Planner Daily. Since the beginning of the year, I have accomplished many of the goals I had set out to do, thanks to my planner. During quarantine, it helped, even more, to guide me to a sense of routine. My world is full of possibilities. I just need to keep moving forward. https://www.instagram.com/isseltmartinez/

My guest says it so well...

I'm Jenna or plan.pen.paint.parent on Instagram. I'm a wife and mom from East Texas and I also have 2 pups. I'll be celebrating 10 years of marriage this August with my husband Caleb, and our son will turn 5 in September. We live out in the middle of nowhere and LOVE it here! We both grew up in the country and wanted the same for our kiddo, so we bought some land in a tiny little town and built a home.

I'm a stay-at-home mom and venturing into homeschool this year for Pre-K. I have been planning and sticker obsessed since middle school and practicing hand-lettering since early 2017. I joined the planner community shortly after and finally feel like I'm finding my path and following my heart.

I'm newly into crystals for healing purposes and I like sharing little bits about them on my planner posts.

On Saturday, August 1st- November 2020, I will officially be part of The Prancing Doxie PR team by Sarah Horst. The brand new website goes live on August 14th. There is a link in my bio to the website (ThePrancingDoxie.com) where you can sign up for an account and shop to earn treats/points for her reward program. And if you use code JENNA15 you'll save 15% at checkout and get my cute sampler as a freebie.
