6. Julien Mitchell - Architect, Photographer, "Kreative" Polymath
11/10/20 • 93 min
Julien Mitchell is a self-defined polymath, practicing architecture, photography and numerous other creative and entrepreneurial pursuits. After leaving Grenada to pursue architecture in the late 90’s, Julien returned in 2016 to design and construct the Lavo Lanes Bowling Alley in Calliste, St. George, which eventually led him to a series of residential design-build projects on the island. His goal in Grenada and in many other developing countries is “to give the man who has $200k, or $300k a home that looks exactly, or thereabout, like that of the man who spends $2 million on his house”. Julien is a part of the New York-based design studio Freeform+Deform, practicing across NYC, Miami, Texas, Jamaica, Nigeria, Ghana and Tanzania, to name a few. In Grenada, he operates under the brand of JSM Architecture.
On this Pathway, we discuss Julien’s contentious relationship with school as a young student, his unorthodox entry into the working world of architecture and the goal-driven accomplishments he has had thus far in his career. We talk about the current state of architecture and construction in Grenada, and future plans in-sight for Julien.
We hope you enjoy the journey on today's Pathway!

7. Shennel Telesford - Mathematics Graduate, Aspiring Actuarial Scientist
Shennel Telesford is currently a teaching assistant in the area of algebra at the National University of the South (Universidad Nacional del Sur) in Bahía Blanca, Argentina, where she also attained her Bachelors degree in Research Mathematics. Her love for mathematics started off as an incentive from her mom in primary school and grew more and more, making it an effortless subject for her during secondary school, before she finally realized a couple years later that it was a passion. During her studies, she was exposed to many areas of mathematics (yes, math isn't just numbers). A great part of this exposure was as a result of the annual math congress by the Argentina Mathematical Union (UMA) . Shennel has attended 6 congresses in total and they served as an excellent tool for a future glimpse into many mathematical areas of study. Algebra and statistics have always been her preference. Currently, she is pursuing a formation in the area of economics as a stepping stone into Actuarial Science.
On this Pathway, we talk about realizing passions and making continuous academic decisions to chart a career. We also talk about learning a new language and the benefits of integrating into a new culture in tandem with pursuit of a formal education.
We hope you enjoy the journey on today's Pathway!
