This week we are coming to you live from Edinburgh Zoo as Jack sits down for a chat with the CEO of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, David Field! This organisation runs both Edinburgh Zoo and the Highland Wildlife Park, so the pair delve into what it means to be a good zoo and how the RZSS is making sure that it is creating an inclusive and educational space which encourages visitors to love, value and ultimately want to protect nature!

The duo also discuss some of the conservation moments which have really inspired David; his chimpanzee friend Koko; and his work with the Zoological Society of East Anglia, Zoological Society of London, Whipsnade Zoo and Dublin Zoo!

Finally, the pair talk about some of David's favourite under-appreciated zoo species and how the RZSS is going to help reverse the decline of at least 50 species within the next decade!

Today Jack is joined by Jasmine Isa Qureshi, who is – not to set the bar too high - undoubtedly one of the most incredible speakers that we have ever had on the podcast!

The duo talk all about where Jasmine's love for nature comes from, their work with organisations such as the Bumblebee Trust, and their love for flat-topped millipedes!

Jack and Jasmine also discuss identity, inclusivity and how they hope to create a more diverse and effective conservation space through their work. This will involve the challenging process of unlearning our biases and asking some big questions, but it must be done.

Jasmine has recently embodied their diversity and inclusivity work in their new project 'Soil To Sky', so please go and check that out!

Today Jack is joined by Robi Watkinson to chat all about his experiences across South Africa and Zambia! This includes filming out of the side of plane with no doors on, getting slightly too close for comfort with some crocodiles, otter spotting, and the essential but tiresome task of removing invasive Eucalyptus!

The duo also discuss the importance of diversity and seeing yourself in the field of conservation, some of the amazing people who inspire Robi, and why his heart will always remain in the Luangwa Valley... spoiler alert, it has a lot to do with the Leopards.

Robi will be back next week to chat all about mental health, diversity, his experience at the University of Cape Town, and a very elusive Orchid!

Today Jack is joined once again by the absolutely fabulous Robi Watkinson, to discuss his experiences across the continent of Africa! Last time the duo chatted all about the things they should never tell their parents... like being chased by painted hunting dogs and hanging out of the side of planes!

This time Jack and Robi talk about much more responsible things, like the Masters in Conservation Biology that Robi is studying at the University of Cape Town, the importance of diversity in conservation, and the power that bringing voices from around the world together has!

They also chat about some of the under-appreciated species which Robi is fascinated by, this includes a very elusive orchid and the charmingly petit Cape Leopard!

Finally Robi shares advice on the importance of looking after your mental health in the field of conservation, something which he sums up so beautifully and Jack couldn’t endorse more!

Ellen Weatherford is back! This week she joins Jack to discuss some of the conservation issues facing her home state of Florida!

The duo discuss the destruction of natural habitats for human development, the division of nature by highways, and the huge invasive species issue... Iguanas, Burmese Pythons and Lion Fish, we are looking at you!

On top of that Ellen talks about how you can decide which American Zoos to support! She is an avid zoo fan, so talks about how to spot a great collection and the differences between the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and the Zoological Association of America (ZAA).

Now... that all seems awfully serious, but do not worry, nothing stops Jack and Ellen from having a few laughs along the way!

It should also be noted that last week Ellen talked all about her favourite local species. This included chats about snapping turtles, bison, alligators, anoles, cotton mouths, spoonbills, scrub jays and manatees. So, if you haven’t checked that out, go back and have a listen!
