Mental illness is not an excuse for poor behavior. Ever. While the complexities of mental illness are real and challenging, our actions often speak louder than the words we say. With that said, the words we use can also change the dynamics and effectiveness of our communication. Accountability is also critical if we want to learn to manage anger and allow new patterns to re-program past ones. In this episode, Jennifer Stirling-Campbell gives both "bad" and "good" examples of how to communicate affectively in relationships, especially when we are angry. Again, while mental illness can make it difficult to control reactions, it does not excuse poor behavior.
