In this episode we talk with Kyleigh Spearing about:

  • The nutrition evolution from 1-2 hour triathlons to endurance gravel events
  • Nutrition strategies that leave her feeling like she can perform at top level
  • Hydration and sodium; when is it too much?

Kyleigh Spearing is a triathlete turned cyclist, with - as she calls it - a side hustle in the world of finance. As a graduate of Cornell University and the University of Notre Dame, she is a professional cyclist focusing on gravel and road racing. Kyleigh got her start in triathlon after years of competitive swimming, but after one season of road racing, she also tackled Unbound 200, and decided to make a move to gravel this year. She is a member of the Colnagoa and PAS Racing Teams, and is looking forward to a busy racing season in 2025, including lining up for Unbound. In addition to her athletic pursuits, she's also a senior FP&A analyst at Vail Resorts.

In this episode we talk with Tara Dower about:

  • Nutrition before, during and post FKTs vs Ultramarathons
  • How working with a nutritionist can take the guesswork out of race prep

Tara Dower is a professional ultrarunner, who you probably also know for crushing the overall FKT on the Appalachian Trail in late 2024. Next up for Tara in 2025 is the iconic Western States 100 as a result of her Golden Ticket 2nd place performance at Black Canyon 100k. Tara also recently signed a record-breaking deal with Altra, a stunning example of her incredible rise in the sport. Tara has an incredible list of results and accolades, and says her favorite distance to tackle is the 100 miler, because it presents so many possibilities for adventure, but she’s no stranger to setting FKTs, with records on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, Benton MacKaye Trail and the Colorado Trail.
