57: Why counting calories or macros isn’t the secret to health
No Wellness Wankery
04/24/23 • 16 min
Do you feel like you are doing all the "right" things but you can't seem to lose weight. You are counting calories or counting macros - never straying from the plan - and yet nothing seems to be happening.
If it feels like your body is fighting against you when you try to lose those last few kilograms, it’s because of your body IS fighting against you.
This used to be Lyndi. When she was a dieter, she punished herself to try and look better in a bikini. She wasted time wondering why she was gaining weight even though her food consumption was perfectly calculated.
It made everything harder... But not anymore.
Because through learning about intuitive eating, she discovered the real secret to health.
Just take a handful of almonds!
Don’t count them. In fact, you don’t need to count anything including macros, points and calories. It’s soul sucking and makes healthy eating painful. You can only count for so long before you feel deprived.
You don’t want to spend the rest of your life counting... you just want to be able to eat and enjoy and be happy.
Count the things you should be grateful for. Way more effective.

No Wellness Wankery
06/26/23 • 25 min
Meet our next real story guest, Tanya.
Tanya has suffered from disordered eating and various eating disorders her entire life. From the pressures of dance classes at the young age of 5, to the influence of her all-girls schooling, Tanya's story is unfortunately relatable, but her recovery is inspiring.
Join Lyndi as she explores Tanya's journey from restrictive eating and excessive exercise to bingeing during her teenage years, and her path to recovery through Lyndi’s Keep It Real program.
They chat about how recognising and validating your own emotions can help cope with difficult days, and how a compassionate approach to oneself is crucial when dealing with disordered eating.
Tanya reveals her ultimate source of inspiration: her four-year-old daughter. As a single mother, Tanya is determined to rebuild her relationship with food and her body, becoming a healthy role model for her child.
This conversation serves as a reminder to anyone struggling with disordered eating: recovery is possible, and it's never too late to embark on a journey of healing and self-acceptance.

81: Are you over exercising or under eating? You can have too much of a good thing
No Wellness Wankery
10/02/23 • 30 min
They say you can never have too much of a good thing.
And yes, there are a few things I believe this statement applies to: holidays, puppies and beach swims.
But two things that can definitely be taken to the extreme are healthy eating and exercising.
Don’t get me wrong – You only get one body, and it’s important to take care of it. But it is absolutely possible to go overboard with eating healthy and exercising, and you can end up doing far more harm than good.
Sarah Liz King is an accredited exercise physiologist who has dedicated her career to promoting safe and effective exercise practices for individuals with disordered eating, eating disorders, exercise addiction, and hypothalamic amenorrhea.
Ever wondered if stress can affect your period?
If you haven’t heard of hypothalamic amenorrhea before, it is a condition where your period stops due to things like excessive stress, intense exercise, low body weight, or certain eating habits.
She works to help women un-learn toxic diet culture and provide a science-backed, holistic approach to mental and physical wellness that will last a lifetime. She is basically my type of woman. Let's do this.

No Wellness Wankery
03/17/24 • 21 min
Have you ever found yourself in a carb conundrum.. Staring down a plate of pasta while your diet plan screams "NO"? I, Lyndi Cohen, certainly have. And I'm ready to spill the beans on the love-hate relationship we have with carbohydrates.
Listen up, as this week's episode we dive head-first into the murky waters of diet culture, starting with my own story involving a Hens party, an Italian restaurant and my low-carb misadventures. Not a match-made-in-heaven you could say!
Let me take you on a journey through the ups and downs of my diet obsession and how I found my way to intuitive eating. A liberating approach where I've learned to listen to my body's natural hunger cues. WITHOUT the guilt.
Waving a big Bye-Bye to the crappy low-carb craze, this episode is all about setting the record straight on carbohydrates. From energy slumps to the social minefield of mealtime choices, we'll bust the myths that have unfairly demonised this essential (and super delicious!) nutrient.
I'll reveal the pesky side effects of cutting carbs . Which may shock you! By the end of our chat, you'll see carbohydrates in a whole new light – as your body's best bud and preferred energy source. NOT the bad guy!
So, get-set for a conversation that’s all about embracing the guilt-free, healthy life you deserve. With a side of that freshly baked Sourdough bread!

6: Am I on a diet or eating intuitively?
No Wellness Wankery
05/23/22 • 11 min
Diets don’t work – 96% of them fail long-term. So why are more people on a diet than ever?
Welcome to a brave new ‘wellness’ world where diets are dressed up and paraded as a ‘healthy lifestyle choice’ or ‘a way of eating’.
This sly rebrand tricks you into thinking you’re doing the “right thing” for your body. But diets, like the Atkins Diet, Cabbage Soup Diet and Lemon Detox Diet to name a few I’ve tried over the years, were much less damaging when they said what they were on the tin (though still plenty harmful.)
But it appears even diet companies are realising that diets don't work and are rebranding to try and entice us back in. So how do we know if we are eating intuitively or really just on another diet.
Not across intuitive eating? Well, you know instinctively know when you are tired and when you need the bathroom. But did you know that a very similar mechanism can help you regulate your weight without you even trying? You may even be familiar with this system. It is called appetite. Getting back in tune with it can teach you how to stop yo yo dieting for good.
As more and more diet companies try and commercialise the principles of intuitive eating, we need to know the clear warning signs to look out for!

32: Do you think you've tried and failed at intuitive eating? Let's chat
No Wellness Wankery
10/10/22 • 15 min
Do you think you have tried and failed at intuitive eating? It’s important to understand that intuitive eating is NOT a diet. And if it's not a diet... you can't fail!
It’s about changing your mindset about food and learning how to eat normally again after years of restricting food and eating by the clock.
Creating a healthy relationship with food isn’t a quick fix and there is no end date to health. So let's unpack the challenges you might face along your path to eating intuitively and how you can overcome them.

20: Is organic food or fancy supplements the secret to health?
No Wellness Wankery
07/18/22 • 15 min
During Covid lockdowns, Lyndi was bright eyed and bushy tailed and set on having her own organic vegetable patch. Upon reflection she realised she was probably impacted by the purity ideals of 'eating organic'. She ended up paying a ridiculous amount of money per carrot and was providing a daily delicious lunch to all the local wildlife. But do we really need to go to these extremes? Is it worth the money to buy organic produce?
Rohan sent in a question for this week's podcast asking just that... oh and he wants to know if he should be spending money on expensive supplements.
Let's get into it.

41: How to spot unqualified health 'experts'. Hint: There's NO one-size-fits-all diet
No Wellness Wankery
12/12/22 • 16 min
A dietitian and nutritionist are not the same thing.
But don't worry, you are not alone if this concept is confusing!
Our lovely listener Caitlin, had a run in with a nutritionist who was dishing out dodgy advice. But thank goodness she had the tools of No Wellness Wankery, to see they were causing her more harm than good. And ditch them.
Caitlin asked Lyndi what the industry is doing about the fact that anyone can call themselves a nutritionist?
Remember it’s a dietitian and nutritionists job to make people healthier – not thinner.
There is no one diet that is perfect for everybody. Any ‘expert’ who pretends there is only one, magical way is probably just a health blogger (or celebrity) without any qualifications. What’s healthy for me may not feel right for you.
