22: Overwhelmed? Drowning? Out-of-sort? Let's chat about Anxiety.
No Wellness Wankery
08/01/22 • 20 min
We firmly believe that speaking to a trained mental health professional is 100% wellness and 0% wankery. So in the spirit of wellness, this is the first of many conversations we will have on the podcast about mental health. We need to give our emotional health the same importance we give physical wellbeing.
Lyndi, Jenna and millions of other people around the world have been diagnosed with clinical anxiety. It's nothing to be ashamed of, but it is something we can work with and learn from everyday. Lyndi has learnt a lot along her journey with anxiety and every conversation about treatment options or medication further removes the stigmas around asking for help.
If you’re struggling with anxiety, depression or any other mental health condition (or even if you are just feeling ‘out-of-sorts’ emotionally), it doesn’t hurt to simply ‘have a chat’ with a professional. You can start with your GP, who can refer you to an awesome Psychiatrist or psychologist. Or you can find a counsellor you like.
The hardest is part is reaching out for support and help. You’ll have to be brave but I promise, it is so worth it.
For more information, check out the awesome peeps at Beyond Blue, or if you think you might need more specialised eating disorder help please reach out to the Butterfly Foundation.
P.s. Let’s stay connected on Instagram! No wellness wankery, I promise. Just bs-free and practical health advice.

57: Why counting calories or macros isn’t the secret to health
No Wellness Wankery
04/24/23 • 16 min
Do you feel like you are doing all the "right" things but you can't seem to lose weight. You are counting calories or counting macros - never straying from the plan - and yet nothing seems to be happening.
If it feels like your body is fighting against you when you try to lose those last few kilograms, it’s because of your body IS fighting against you.
This used to be Lyndi. When she was a dieter, she punished herself to try and look better in a bikini. She wasted time wondering why she was gaining weight even though her food consumption was perfectly calculated.
It made everything harder... But not anymore.
Because through learning about intuitive eating, she discovered the real secret to health.
Just take a handful of almonds!
Don’t count them. In fact, you don’t need to count anything including macros, points and calories. It’s soul sucking and makes healthy eating painful. You can only count for so long before you feel deprived.
You don’t want to spend the rest of your life counting... you just want to be able to eat and enjoy and be happy.
Count the things you should be grateful for. Way more effective.

No Wellness Wankery
09/04/23 • 38 min
Recently, a lovely client called Elizabeth reached out to me inside my Keep it Real program - a program to help people recover from binge eating disorder and stop emotional eating.
She mentioned that she was struggling with binge eating and ADHD. She says she constantly forget that she is trying to ditch dieting, gets bored with exercise and struggles with impulse control.
Did you know people with ADHD are more likely to struggle with binge eating disorder?
But have you ever wondered why?
Forgotten meals, binge eating, struggling to exercise, and boredom eating – if these things sound familiar to you. Listen up!
I am so pumped to have Becca King join me for this episode.
Becca aka @adhd.nutritionist is an ADHDer helping fellow adult ADHDers.
Becca is a nutritionist and dietitian who will help break down the complexities of ADHD and its link with binge eating disorder. Basically, she's pretty great.
So, what are we chatting about?
- the role of various foods and nutrition and eating patterns in managing ADHD.

83: Are you eating TOO MUCH or NOT ENOUGH? You might be surprised by the results.
No Wellness Wankery
10/16/23 • 24 min
You often hear dieters say "I really don't eat that much. I have no idea why I can't lose weight". As a past dieter, I know how much I was very religiously sticking to my very few calories that I was allowing myself to have, eating very lightly and not getting anywhere. I would see these diets and meal plans and think 'how do people eat this much?!'
But the truth is diet culture BS has made it SO hard to even know how much you should be eating. Are you eating too much or not enough?
You know it – and I know it – you can’t live your fullest life on an empty stomach. You’re meant for great things but you can’t reach your potential or live your best life when all you think about is food.
Constantly worrying about how much you ate or whether you’re eating the ‘right’ things distracts you from all the important shit you were put on this earth to do! And we can’t have that, because the world needs what you’ve got to share.
Lucky for us, our body has delightful inbuilt systems that can give us all the answers. We just need to learn how to listen.

31: Scientists have proven that "diet foods" trick you into eating MORE
No Wellness Wankery
10/03/22 • 16 min
We are in a wave of new information and research about the gut-brain axis. How the health of our gut can impact our mental health. But did you know this goes both ways? What our thoughts are around food - 'good' foods and 'bad' foods - impacts our stomach and how we feel after eating.
Remember food isn’t good or bad, food is just food. Yet every day, we’re bombarded with conflicting advice about what we ‘should’ be eating. We know it's very easy to tell you 'don't label foods as good or bad', but the Milkshake experiment showed us why it really matters.
Wtf is the Milkshake Experiment? It's a 2011 study, where psychologist Alia Crum got volunteers to drink a 'healthy' milkshake and an 'unhealthy' milkshake... the results will amaze you.

81: Are you over exercising or under eating? You can have too much of a good thing
No Wellness Wankery
10/02/23 • 30 min
They say you can never have too much of a good thing.
And yes, there are a few things I believe this statement applies to: holidays, puppies and beach swims.
But two things that can definitely be taken to the extreme are healthy eating and exercising.
Don’t get me wrong – You only get one body, and it’s important to take care of it. But it is absolutely possible to go overboard with eating healthy and exercising, and you can end up doing far more harm than good.
Sarah Liz King is an accredited exercise physiologist who has dedicated her career to promoting safe and effective exercise practices for individuals with disordered eating, eating disorders, exercise addiction, and hypothalamic amenorrhea.
Ever wondered if stress can affect your period?
If you haven’t heard of hypothalamic amenorrhea before, it is a condition where your period stops due to things like excessive stress, intense exercise, low body weight, or certain eating habits.
She works to help women un-learn toxic diet culture and provide a science-backed, holistic approach to mental and physical wellness that will last a lifetime. She is basically my type of woman. Let's do this.

No Wellness Wankery
03/17/24 • 21 min
Have you ever found yourself in a carb conundrum.. Staring down a plate of pasta while your diet plan screams "NO"? I, Lyndi Cohen, certainly have. And I'm ready to spill the beans on the love-hate relationship we have with carbohydrates.
Listen up, as this week's episode we dive head-first into the murky waters of diet culture, starting with my own story involving a Hens party, an Italian restaurant and my low-carb misadventures. Not a match-made-in-heaven you could say!
Let me take you on a journey through the ups and downs of my diet obsession and how I found my way to intuitive eating. A liberating approach where I've learned to listen to my body's natural hunger cues. WITHOUT the guilt.
Waving a big Bye-Bye to the crappy low-carb craze, this episode is all about setting the record straight on carbohydrates. From energy slumps to the social minefield of mealtime choices, we'll bust the myths that have unfairly demonised this essential (and super delicious!) nutrient.
I'll reveal the pesky side effects of cutting carbs . Which may shock you! By the end of our chat, you'll see carbohydrates in a whole new light – as your body's best bud and preferred energy source. NOT the bad guy!
So, get-set for a conversation that’s all about embracing the guilt-free, healthy life you deserve. With a side of that freshly baked Sourdough bread!
