Mystic Magic

Send us a text

Reverend Sylvia E. Sumter is the Senior Minister of Unity of Washington, DC and has served in this position since 1991. Prior to her tenure there, she served as the Chairperson of Communication Studies and Skills Department for the Unity School of Religious Studies, in Unity Village, Missouri.

She was licensed as a Minister in 1986 and ordained as a Unity Minister in 1987. Rev. Sumter has a Masters of Education, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and an Associate of Arts in Business Administration.
When Rev. Sylvia came to Unity Village, she was required to stay on the campus for her own safety as a Black woman living in Lee Summit, Missouri. After graduation, she became an instructor to maintain a representation of a person of color in leadership replacing Rev. Sally Taylor.

She is a natural and gifted spiritual teacher. She counsels through a lived experience. Rev. Sylvia continues to help others expand their spiritual consciousness and vision by living in the awareness of the Divine through prayer, meditation and practicing spiritual principles for living life fearlessly and with authenticity.

Rev. Sumter sees Unity of Washington, DC as a beacon of light and she sees her church serving by keeping the high watch in the nation's capital. She learned from Eric Butterworth to stand on principles and use them. She knows that we need audacious faith to handle uncertainty. She invites us to move with deep trust and embrace the uncertainty. She lets her congregation see her walk, so she can share her story of surrendering to what she knows. She shows them how she lets the Divine guide her because she is subject to have any experience. She demonstrates what it looks like to get back on that horse using principles. By doing so, she eliminates the thought that there is a mythical bar to reach. She shows that she too can forget the truth, but she knows how to get back to It. She wants them to know that all of this is a spiritual experience. And we can do this.

Rev. Sylvia has had many mystical moments including several time warps. She's aware that the spiritual dimension is not qualified by simply time, space and matter. We cannot put confines on how Spirit shows up. God cannot be limited.

We must shed the old paradigm of being a physical being but embrace being a spiritual being. The next evolution is a spiritual one. Everything breaks down, including the physical barriers. The veil is being lifted. The curtain has been rent. There is another dimension. Let's own these powers. Being a spiritual being is not lip service. We are to step into the Christ. Miracles are the working of higher spiritual laws. It’s an exciting time. We are showing the way, being light bearers. Here’s the way. Walk in it. Be masters of energy.
She quotes Dr. King: "For evil to prosper, good people are to do nothing." We must speak.
The meek shall inherit the earth. It's time to rise up together.
She belongs to the group Evolutionary Leaders (along with Deepak Chopra and other luminaries). Her website is unityofwashingtondc.org.
She is a contributing author to two books: "Our Moment of Choice – Evolutionary Visions and Hope for the Future and Meditation: Intimate Experiences with the Divine through Contemplative Practices.
She has a foundation called Stand Up For Humanity! – Unity of Washington DC

Finding Our Truth

Send us a text

Chris Plourde is a coach, a businessman, a father, and husband. He has worked with top athletes and well-known companies, celebrities, and military special ops. He has mentored many to find their authentic self and create leadership qualities which they can bring to their families, communities and businesses.

Chris encourages his clients to speak the truth, to say what's on their mind. He works with people on how to let those things out that they've been holding in for so long. For him, it's not just about how we speak to others, but how we speak to ourselves, and understanding that from an emotional intelligence.
As a teenager, Chris put on masks to become this idea of what a masculine man should be, burying his emotions, not feeling. He helps kids understand their emotions, so they know that it's okay to own your feelings. One of the things Chris does is get people into a deep breathwork session that that allows the layers to get peeled off immediately. It's building trust. It's compassion. There's a non-judgment that comes with it. Everyone is going through something, and we just have to understand.
One of his main workshops is creating loving boundaries for success and happiness. He asks his clients how fulfilled are you in your life? They might have millions but not living their truth. One needs to put up this loving boundary to know it's about your goals, dreams and happiness. Then you are going to be the best version of yourself and be able to give more to your company, family, community, to loved ones, to all of the people around you so that you can be in service. He thinks that all humans crave to be in service to a greater good.
He gives people the space and opportunity to make the decisions on their own. The best form of enrolling is talking about the results that you're getting. That lights people up. It's about doing the inner work on ourselves first and foremost.
When he was growing up, he had this idea of what he should be based upon what was around him growing up. When he got into these places, he realized pretty quickly that there was something missing. He was drained, exhausted and he wasn't excited and passionate about what he was doing. The idea of working with people, serving people, training people, and coaching people made him happy. When he got his first paycheck to work with and train somebody in the fitness industry, he couldn't believe they were paying him that much money to do something he loved to do. This was happiness. This is what he wanted to do, follow his joy.
When his wife got pregnant, there was an old voice in his head that said go back to corporate America. But he quickly realized that it wasn't what he was meant to do. That wasn't in a space of his power. He made the decision to remove himself from that environment and get back into coaching. And when he did, he was tested. He chose to be deliberate with his intention. Then everything lined up beautifully. The lesson was he let fear and money be his motivators. It was the big lesson to follow his heart and do what he needs to do to contribute to the world, to humans, the earth. There's a joy he gets when he sees somebody get that light bulb or find something with their life that they're supposed to do. He believes all souls are here for a specific reason. He gets to help them see that for themselves. There's just a fulfillment that he can't explain. Our soul has a contract.
His website is chrisplourde.com. His programs, retreats and workshops are there. You can also reach him on Instagram at Coach Chris Plourde. You can get it a breathwork class on his website. If you want him to

High Touch, High Tech

Margaret Agard is a former executive in the high-tech industry, an author, speaker, Christian mystic and reiki healer. Margaret focuses on helping others change their lives and finding true purpose by turning their to-do lists over to God (higher power/spirit/inner voice). She cleared things out of her life that didn't matter. The more time, energy, money she was willing to give in spite of what she thought were burdens, the more God freed up her time, energy and money to give.
When she was six years old, she met God. She felt Love, Intelligence and a being that she was meeting. Since then, she has spent her life seeking that kind of connection again.
Her definition of a mystic is someone who spends their time and is committed to being in God's Presence and having God's Presence in his or her life. She spends each evening in contemplative prayer as God speaks to her. Throughout the day, she asks herself if she is feeling love toward everyone around her. If she is, she knows that God is present.

Her story appeals to many who have more to do than time to do it in and want to live their best life. At the time she started this practice, she was a single mother of eight, working full time as the sole financial support for her family. She had returned to university full time to finish the last few credits for her bachelor’s degree in mathematics. She slept less than four hours a night and often woke in a panic worrying about what wasn't getting done. Her previous practice of prioritizing and focusing on the "most important" tasks wasn't working. After turning her to-do list over to God, she "got more done, got more sleep, and had less stress."
Her story inspires others to do the same. She spends time writing, helping other people and is prompted to make herself available to do what she loves to do. Her service opportunities have included teaching in Arizona jails and visiting Alaskan native villages, by giving God all day every day.
When she met her second husband, she realized that there was some healing to do for them and their children from previous marriages. She asked God for inspiration. The thought came: All will be made whole as the result of this marriage. They committed to support each other in helping other people.
Her series of books is entitled "In His Footsteps" includes 1) "I Gave My To Do List Over to God and Got More Done, More Sleep and Less Stress", 2) We Sold All We Had and Followed as God Created Miracles and New Hearts, and coming soon: " Love: Becoming One with Parker". She nicknames them faith, hope and charity, respectively.
She is connected to Spirit, available to God and she is present. She takes her understanding and brings Love to other people. Her website is https://margaretagard.com
