My Favourite Film Podcast

With week I talk to Richard Haslett about the 1985 classic time travel film Back to the Future.


Directed by Robert Zemeckis and Written by Robert Zemeckis & Bob Gale.


Synopsis: Marty McFly (Michael J Fox), a typical American teenager, is accidentally sent back to 1955 in a plutonium-powered time machine, made from DeLorean and invented by his scientist friend Doc Emmet Brown (Christopher Lloyd).


When Marty arrives in 1955 he manages to facture the timeline by accidentally stopping the first meeting of his parents, now with his own life and future hanging in the balance he must find a way to get his parents to connect and get himself "Back to the Future".

During my waffelly talk with Richard we look at all things Back to the Future, why he loves it, what it means to him and indeed the impact it has had on pop culture. The talk is spoiler filled and we do touch on the 2 sequels (Back to the Future Part II & Part III) as well as many side topics.

This week I talk to Ravinder Kalirai about his favourite film, the 1982 classic, First Blood.


Based on the 1972 novel “First Blood” by David Morell, after it's release in 1982 it spawned a film franchise comprising of:

Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985)

Rambo III (1988)

Rambo (2008)

Rambo: Last Blood (2019)

as well as an animated series that ran for 65 episodes between April and December 1985

Synopsis: Vietnam veteran and drifter John J. Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) wanders into a small Washington town in search of an old friend, but is met with intolerance and brutality by the local sheriff, Will Teasle (Brian Dennehy). When Teasle and his deputies restrain and shave Rambo, he flashes back to his time as a prisoner of war and unleashes his fury on the officers. He narrowly escapes the manhunt, but it will take his former commander (Richard Crenna) to save the hunters from the hunted.

Plot Synopsis

When 25 year old Kit, a refuse collector, starts a romance with 15 year old Holly, Holly’s farther doesn’t approve and warns Kit off. What follows is a journey into desperation and madness. As Kit shoots Holly’s father and takes holly on the run after burning down her family home.

Kit and Holly live a serene life in the woods until bounty hunters catch them, then they really start running as the tagline says “In 1959 a lot of people were killing time. Kit and Holly were killing people.”
