When a 25 year old Jessica McCormack and her three young daughters disappeared suddenly in July of 2019, Jessica’s closest friends thought she was taking time away to decompress. They had conversations with her on Facebook while she was gone, but it soon became clear that the person on Facebook was just an imposter who’d hacked into Jessica’s account. Several weeks later, Jessica’s body was found on a highway in the Ozarks after apparently falling out of a suitcase that she’d been stuffed into. The shocking discovery prompted a search for Jessica’s three daughters. This would mark the beginning of an ongoing fight to find answers: who killed Jessica McCormack?

To report information regarding the murder of Jessica McCormack, please contact the McDonald County Sheriff’s Office at (417) 223-4319, or try calling the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI. To contribute to Jessica’s GoFundMe, visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/JUSTICEFORJESSICAMCCORMACK?qid=e56944f9e6e128883db7ab671be0e9ff.

On the morning of May 26, 1990, Marlene Warren was finishing breakfast with her son and his friends when she heard a knock on their front door. The 40-year-old mother of two wasn’t expecting anyone but answered the door anyway. She was greeted by someone wearing a clown costume and white face paint, clutching a flower arrangement and foil balloons. Marlene was delighted at the cheerful sight. Then, suddenly, everything changed. Moments later the clown pulled out a gun, aimed it at her face, and pulled the trigger. The bizarre attack left the community puzzled and horrified, at a time when authorities were ill-equipped to find answers.

Optimists have a tendency to see the best in people, sometimes to their own detriment. According to

Healthline, an individual’s calling to fix other peoples’ problems is referred to by psychologists as a savior

complex or white knight syndrome. A savior complex would explain the unlikely friendship between

Ashley Young and her friend who had a troubling past. Ashley often saw the best in people and believed

her positive influence could potentially set someone on the right path. Unfortunately, Ashley’s unwavering

loyalty put her in grave danger. After detectives made a gruesome discovery and conducted forensic

tests, a parent’s worst nightmare came true. Ashley Young had been murdered and the killer may have

had help from an unlikely source. To this day, Ashley’s family still do not have all the answers they crave

and deserve.

When heading out to run errands, you fully expect to make it home safely. In June of 2007, 18-year-old Kelsey Smith went to the store, but she never made it home. No one could’ve predicted that less than two weeks after high school graduation, Kelsey’s life would come to a violent end. Outside a Target store less than 10 minutes from her childhood home, Kelsey was forced into her car and abducted. As Johnson County detectives frantically searched for the missing teen, the community struggled to understand how something like this could’ve happened in broad daylight.

Almost six years later, a triple homicide that left Heather Greaves, Lisa Greaves and Avery Greaves dead in their home would end up being linked to the original suspect in Jennifer Still’s murder. It seems like everyone is wearing an Apple Watch or FitBit to count steps and reach health goals. In the case we examine in this episode, the victim’s wearable technology was actually used as a tool to try to solve her murder. Two days before Christmas in 2015, 39-year-old mother of two Connie Dabat was found shot to death in her Connecticut home. As detectives scrambled for answers, a small device worn on her hip was key in learning the truth about her death. When law enforcement settled on a suspect, the news rocked the community and Connie’s loved ones to their core.

Daydreaming about coming into a sudden windfall is probably something we’ve all done. We let our minds

wander for a brief moment, thinking of all the things we’d accomplish if it happened, and how happy we

would be having received such a rare treat. Who would you share the money with if it happened to you?

Your family, a stranger in need ...your best friend? It’s a happy thought, but sometimes the reality can be

much darker because money also motivates some people to do terrible things. In this case, curiosity led

to the opening of a mysterious box. From that point on, the clock was ticking ...on someone’s life.

When feelings for another person run deep, people are often inclined to see the best in that person. It’s

not uncommon for unsettling behavior to be excused rather than seeing it as a warning sign and acting on

it. But this idealism can put someone in harm’s way without them realizing it until it’s much too late. When

Nicole Montalvo went missing in October 2019, investigators quickly learned that a lot was going on in her

personal life and sadly, her circumstances were not all that unusual. Nicole’s disturbing murder led to

three arrests and one trial.

While in her 20s and 30s, Cape Cod native Christa Worthington built a successful career in fashion journalism. She rubbed elbows with elite designers, wrote editorials for widely-respected publications like Cosmopolitan, and cycled through high fashion cities like Paris and London. Still, she felt a profound absence in her life that couldn’t be satisfied by any career advancement. As she turned 40, Christa realized she wanted to be a mother. When her daughter Ava was born, it was as amazing as she envisioned. In a cruel twist of fate, Christa’s joy was abruptly cut short. The events that unfolded on January 4th, 2002 would rip away the life she had carefully contrived, leaving behind a trail of utter devastation. This case brings up questions that aren’t easily answered and almost 20 years later, it’s still difficult to determine the truth.
