This episode is a special recap of my presentation at the BYU Women’s Conference in May 2024. I'm excited to share my journey and the valuable financial principles that have transformed my family’s financial health.

During my talk at the conference, I highlighted the importance of setting your financial house in order, drawing inspiration from both scripture and modern-day prophets. I emphasized that understanding and learning financial principles is crucial for making better financial decisions. I shared personal anecdotes from my own experiences growing up in Brazil and the financial mistakes I made early on, stressing the need for financial literacy and responsible money management.

I outlined four key principles that can change your financial course:

  1. Principle 1: Understand and Learn Financial Principles: Observe, learn, and teach money management within your family.
  2. Principle 2: Teach Our Families: Engage your kids in financial discussions, teach them to earn, save, give, and spend wisely.
  3. Principle 3: Achieve Debt Freedom: Embrace a debt-free lifestyle to gain financial freedom.
  4. Principle 4: Experience Temporal and Spiritual Blessings: By practicing consistent small efforts, you can harness the power of compound interest and enjoy financial and spiritual rewards.

By embracing these principles, you can reduce anxiety, increase spiritual receptivity, and gain the freedom to choose how to use your resources. I concluded with encouraging words, reminding everyone that small, consistent efforts can lead to significant financial blessings, allowing us to serve others and build a secure financial future.

In this episode, our guest, Vania Valtriani, shares her incredible journey of overcoming a life-threatening health crisis and how it transformed her outlook on life, faith, and finances. Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, Vania moved to the United States with her family in search of better opportunities. What started as a typical immigrant story quickly took a dramatic turn when she suffered a hemorrhagic stroke that left her in a coma for several months. Her story is one of faith, resilience, and the miraculous power of healing, deeply rooted in her spiritual beliefs and the unwavering support of her family.

Vania recounts the moment when doctors gave her husband and children the grim news that she had no chance of survival. However, her family's faith never wavered, and through their prayers and a blessing given by her husband, Vania experienced what she describes as a miracle. She vividly recalls a spiritual encounter during her coma, where she communicated with her deceased father and felt the overwhelming love of Jesus Christ, which she credits with her recovery. This life-altering experience not only changed her perspective on life and death but also solidified her mission to share her story with the world, leading her to write a book and create a YouTube channel to inspire others.

While most of us may not have such profound faith experiences, Vania’s story reminds us that if we pay attention, we can recognize confirmations of God’s guidance, assurance, and strength in our lives. Her journey also touches on the financial challenges she faced post-recovery, including a staggering hospital bill that was miraculously reduced, allowing her to focus on her new mission rather than financial burdens. Vania shares practical advice on handling finances, emphasizing the importance of saving, even in small amounts, and trusting in divine provision. Her story is a testament to the power of faith, the importance of family, and the belief that even in the darkest times, miracles are possible.

In this episode, Vania teaches us about the strength that comes from faith, the importance of family support during life’s trials, and how even the smallest acts of financial prudence can make a significant difference. Her story serves as a powerful reminder that, through faith and perseverance, we can navigate the challenges in our lives and find the guidance and strength we need to move forward.

Money is Not Your Problem - Ep.30 Bridging the Gap to Your Financial Success
play

03/20/24 • 35 min

No matter how much we talk about goals, if you use an achievement-only approach, your results will most likely not last. Scientific studies prove that the most successful approach for lasting results is having a compelling reason and focusing on who you want to become, your identity. Researchers like Dr. Edwin Locke, Dr. Barry Goldman, Dr. Gary Latham, and even author James Clear have concluded that personal identity goals strategies support successful behavior change and goal achievement (Goldman, Masterson, Locke, et al., 2002).
In this week's episode, we discussed a simple 3-way approach designed to help you better set your goals for becoming good with money and achieving financial prosperity. This approach starts with who you want to become and your vision for the future; then, we look at who you are right now and then what strategies we need to use to bridge the gap.

These three simple yet powerful steps that can transform your vision into reality:

There: Visualize your future financial goals. Who is the person who has the results you want to achieve?

Now: Take a moment to reflect on yourself today. What are your habits? How do you use your time? What are your emotional and behavioral patterns?

The Bridge: Now, identify what you need to change to become who you want to be: the person who has the financial results you desire.

We invite you to take some time to complete this exercise. It could be the crucial first step toward achieving financial freedom and realizing your dreams. We're rooting for you!

The audio for this week's episode is not great, BUT if you can deal with it, you will learn how someone who understands that YOU ARE NOT your mistakes or failures progresses and grow.
Carolyn Emond shares with me how she uses the challenges, setbacks, and "bad" decisions in her life as data and not as a life ( or death) sentence.
She is an example of someone who can learn from all her experiences and how to continue evolving without the guilt, shame, and pity parties that we usually throw ourselves when we make something that does not turn out how we planned or is unexpected.

Many of us let FEAR dictates how we handle our finances, and that is not the most productive emotion to create the financial freedom and results we want.
In this week's episode, I have a conversation with Candice Toone, who explains how she shifted some former money beliefs in a way that supported her personal finance and business growth.
Candice Toone is a former Marriage and Family Therapist turned Master Certified Life Coach and the founder of the Defying Gravity Revolution.
Her mission is to help women stop wondering if they married the wrong guy and start enJOYing the marriage they imagined when they said "I do".
She's a podcaster, author, connoisseur of grapefruit juice, and a Jazzercise enthusiast. She lives in Utah with her husband, 3 children, and their dog. (linktr.ee/candicetoonecoaching)

Welcome to the third and final episode of our three-part series on Goals.
In the first episode, we delved into the significance of having a compelling reason that drives us to persist even when faced with obstacles and a lack of motivation. We discussed the power of focusing on the person we aspire to become, as opposed to short-term and isolated projects. By anchoring our goals in our identity, we substantially enhance our potential for continuous progress.
We stressed the importance of forming the habit of consistently defining and working towards our goals. This habit, where one goal's completion ushers in the next, acts as a catalyst for our growth journey.
In the previous episode, we explored the four stages of goal-setting that we can follow to attain our ambitions and shape our identity:
1. **Imagination or Dreaming**
2. **Planning**
3. **Execution**
4. **Progress Tracking**
We emphasized the significance of not skipping steps or altering their sequence to maximize the likelihood of achieving our desired outcomes.
There are two types of goals we can set, always keeping in mind that our objective is personal improvement:
1. **Habit Goals** - those daily-life incorporations we desire.
2. **Achievement Goals** - specific accomplishments we aim for.
In this final episode, we'll delve into the most pivotal aspect of success regarding goal achievement and ongoing progress.
Often, people lack a structured system for tracking their progress. Failing to do this regularly and with frequency results in forgetting goals, neglecting necessary adjustments (time, resources, steps, tasks, motivation), and neglecting whether the goal remains relevant or essential. Worst of all, they fail to acknowledge and celebrate incremental successes. These small victories trigger dopamine release in the brain, reinforcing positive associations with actions, even when challenging, thus keeping us on track.
We recommend:
1. Daily Review
2. Weekly Review
3. End-of-Goal Review (for Achievement Goals) or Scheduled Date Review (for Habit Goals)
What we focus on, grows.
Regularly review your goals, and watch your progress accelerate.
