Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you’re working so hard you feel sleep deprived more often than you feel rested, or you’re working so hard that you forget to eat or you ignore important household chores, like paying your bills or doing laundry until you have nothing clean to wear, and for those of you with children, you are unable to make time for your children’s extra curricular or even their activities at home? These are all indications that you need to find a work life balance.
In this episode, PK encourages listeners to prioritize a change in how you balance your work obligations and lifestyle obligations to avoid putting your mental, physical and emotional selves in jeopardy.

Some Key Takeaways from this episode to achieve that delicate balance between being effective both at work and at home :

Happy international Women’s Day! And Happy Women’s History Month!

This time of year is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions women have made to the culture, history and society of the United States, as well as their contributions to the world-at-large. But have you stopped to think about what it takes to fulfill these roles effectively?
When you look at your own life, do you find that you are putting yourself on the back burner in order to meet the needs of all those who are depending on you for mental, physical, emotional, financial support? Will your legacy be one of self-love or self-sacrifice?

In this episode, PK urges women to take a moment to take stock of their lives and to make the necessary adjustments in self-care that would help them to meet the needs of everyone else who depends on them whether at home or in society.

Key Takeaways from this episode:

  • The United Nations General Assembly adopted its resolution on the observance of International Women’s Day in 1975
  • Historically, women have been taught that loving themselves is selfish
  • Modern psychology says that not to prioritize self-love and self-care could result in serious damage to your overall wellbeing.
  • There’s nothing wrong with saving for a rainy day, but there has to be a balance between saving for unforeseen circumstances and investing in your self-care
  • Having self-compassion is critical to your emotional health

And while you’re at it, don't forget to grab your FREE Affirmation eCards to shift your mindset, raise your self-esteem and boost your self-confidence. Last week we focused on health and well being. This week the focus is on self-care, self-esteem and self confidence. Peter Willis, a best selling author and International training coach from the UK says that self care is "...intrinsically linked to your self-esteem and self- confidence,." That really resonated with me. He said, “... people with high self-esteem and self-confidence value themselves as much as others and recognize that unless they take care of themselves, they’ll diminish the contribution they make to others. It’s like the often quoted airline analogy about putting on your own mask first, before attempting to assist anyone else.

With that in mind, today’s affirmation is:

When I take better care of myself, I can take better care of others

To truly take care of yourself, you have to love yourself fully. You have to accept yourself as you are and honor your physical, mental and spiritual needs. It means being attentive to your diet and exercise routines, as well as the number of hours of sleep you get. It's about making choices that align with your values so that you can protect your self esteem and grow your confidence, which is what happens when you take care of yourself.

"I have the power and ability to create any reality of my choosing." This is the affirmation for Day 6 in our Season of Affirmations. I think it was Maya Angelou who said in an interview with Oprah that we teach people how to treat us. If people perceive us as losers, they treat us as such, and if they perceive us as winners, they treat us with the respect they believe winners deserve. How do people treat you?

It's Day 3 in the Season of Affirmations! It's time to declutter! You can't make a fresh start with clutter all around. Clutter equals chaos, and it's very difficult to think clearly or be productive in the midst of confusion.

In this episode, Dr. Peggie Kirkland looks at how people who always have a positive comeback can actually have a toxic effect on you. Psychology experts say they can add stress to your life and damage your psychological and physical health. Dr. Kirkland offers alternative statements that you can use to support other women, such as telling someone, "I'm sorry you're going through that situation, and I'm here for you," instead of saying, "It could be worse," which is a statement that only leaves the listener feeling worse off than where they started.

Part of a larger Divine plan is how you sometimes come to view your life, If you’ve lived long enough. You also realize that life sometimes takes us on unpredictable journeys, that may initially make our heads spin, but once we get over the initial shock of the experience, and we take some time to reflect, we may realize that things that happen are not just coincidences. That was the experience of Rochel Marie Lawson in her journey to what she calls blissful living.
In this episode, Rochel Marie, takes us on a journey starting with her graduation from college with a degree in Electrical Engineering, a rarity for a woman in the 80s she said. She takes us through the challenges she encountered as a female in a male-dominated field how she dealt with them. That was one challenge that Rochel Marie overcame, but that was not all.
Rochel also overcame a health condition that had gone undiagnosed for more than 17 years. She did this by taking stock of her health, listening to her body and learning about and practicing Ayurveda.
