I Embarrassed Myself
03/24/22 • 16 min
In this episode I talk about what meanisms are and how we can get rid of them. Here is a step by step recap:
- Having a good relationship with yourself is key to staying motivated. Sometimes we think that if we are hard on ourselves that that will motivate us to try harder and be better. The opposite is often true. (When we are mean to ourselves it makes it hard to want to do anything, because we just want to hide)
- Sometimes we don’t recognize when we ARE being mean to ourselves. We just think that we know the facts.
- It takes practice to recognize our unproductive and sometimes destructive thoughts (also known as unintentional thoughts)
- We can decide to think new thoughts on purpose (That is called Intentional or deliberate thinking). In the example that I shared earlier my daughter projected a thought on me. Meaning that her brain was telling her that I was thinking that she played poorly and was embarrassing. When really it was just her own thought about herself. We do this more often than we realize.
- We can practice advocating for ourselves in our own brain. We can give space to listen to those negative thoughts and say “I hear you, but I don’t believe that”.
