Do you have a tired mantra?
Mom Rising
02/22/23 • 4 min
What is your mantra? What is your focus for your day? What do you want it to be? Don't forget that you get to decide. That means you have to choose in advance or pay attention to what you are already thinking to see if that's the focus you want. This short episode gives you an example of a mantra that I was telling myself unintentionally. I can choose to think empowering thoughts and so can you!

#1 Killer of Passion
Mom Rising
07/29/22 • 16 min
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ― Marianne Williamson A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of "A Course in Miracles"In this episode I offer my opinion of the #1 Killer of Passion in life and how to cultivate more passion for your own life.
A few more lovely quotes that I use:
britannica.com defines passion as a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something
Thomas Heuer said, “Life begins when an individual rejects “easy” and decides to embark on the difficult journey to find his/her passion.
You are “smart enough, creative enough, deserving enough and good enough” Barrie Davenport

I Embarrassed Myself
Mom Rising
03/24/22 • 16 min
In this episode I talk about what meanisms are and how we can get rid of them. Here is a step by step recap:
- Having a good relationship with yourself is key to staying motivated. Sometimes we think that if we are hard on ourselves that that will motivate us to try harder and be better. The opposite is often true. (When we are mean to ourselves it makes it hard to want to do anything, because we just want to hide)
- Sometimes we don’t recognize when we ARE being mean to ourselves. We just think that we know the facts.
- It takes practice to recognize our unproductive and sometimes destructive thoughts (also known as unintentional thoughts)
- We can decide to think new thoughts on purpose (That is called Intentional or deliberate thinking). In the example that I shared earlier my daughter projected a thought on me. Meaning that her brain was telling her that I was thinking that she played poorly and was embarrassing. When really it was just her own thought about herself. We do this more often than we realize.
- We can practice advocating for ourselves in our own brain. We can give space to listen to those negative thoughts and say “I hear you, but I don’t believe that”.

After a difficult motor accident Christian found himself without the use of his legs.
The doctors tried to tell him that he'd never walk again. His is a story of determination mixed with a miracle.
Christian didn’t say this in the interview, but after he walked into the doctor's office (the doctor who told him that he would never walk again) he picked up his cane and threw it to him.
Here are a few quotes from the interview I had with him:
"I was motivated by not wanting to be stuck."
I would stand for hours in the hall of the physical therapy place. When the nurses walked by and asked “what are you doing” I would say “I’m getting my legs back."
“You can start with nothing and there are no limitations”
"A strong circle can help you when you are down."
If you don’t have a strong circle start with a coach.
"The only limitations are the ones you put on yourself"
"No one can put limitations on you."
"That want has to be stronger than you."
