Made for More with Amanda Kolbye - 88. If I Had to Start Over, This Is What I Would Do

Made for More with Amanda Kolbye

Once you've reached a particular phase in your business, the common question is, "If you had to start over, what would you do?"

I've been thinking lately about what I would do differently if I were to start my business again or If I was a student going through my LLB program. In this episode, I'm going to go down the list of all the different things that I kind of thought of what I would do differently, what I would do the same, then some things that are not necessarily bad or good that I did, but I think would need to be addressed differently.

In this episode, we cover...

  • Building a business while having a 9-5, why I don't regret quitting my job and moving to Thailand
  • Mastering your skills
  • Building an audience, showing up & networking
  • My opinion on starting a passive income
  • The importance of niching down
  • Mindset and clarity and defining your vision

"My number one focus would be building an audience. You can sit behind the scenes all day and perfect all of these things; you need to build foundations to scale the business, but I'm talking about, this is my day one that I'm talking to you about starting over on, and I would start building an audience."

"When many people hear my business story, they hear about my coaching business, and we grew, you know, to a million in two years and all this crazy stuff. We grew so fast. And then, when I talk about my design business, I was booked out in my first week of launching and made over 5k in my first month and continued to scale from there. It's all these sexy stories. But one of the bottom parts of the iceberg to those stories is that I had built a personal brand since the spring of 2008 very intentionally on Instagram."

"I had built a personal brand, where I showed up every day for an entire year before making a single dollar. Now that's because I wasn't trying to sell anything before. But it's also a huge reason I could sell things so fast because people knew and trusted me."

87. Risk vs Safety: It’s Time to Make BIG Moves

"The most dangerous place to be is an indecision." If you want significant results, you've got to make big moves; risk-taking and taking action! No matter what level of entrepreneurship you're at, if you are a six-figure business owner or considering leaving your 9-5 job to start a business, you will be assessing the risk of what it takes to achieve your goals.

In this episode, I want to unpack what taking risks means, what safety means, and how you can completely reframe how you look at taking risks.

In this episode, we cover...

  • Living outside of your comfort zone
  • Feeling into and moving past fear
  • Understanding what is holding you back
  • Uncovering the narrative that is happening in your brain
  • Assessing risk
  • The importance of being decisive

"When you're looking at your risk, you are most likely, in this example, only considering losing what we have now, which is the nine to five and the quote-unquote, stable income, right. But we're not considering the loss of what we could gain."

"You can always go back to where you are at now! You got here one way you can get here again, I didn't say it would be easy, but it is a possibility that exists in the universe."

89. Elevate Your Money Mindset & Unpack Outdated Marketing Tactics with Melanie Aubert

The way that people are buying and making purchasing decisions is changing. Not only is the entrepreneur bubble that we're in going through massive shifts, but overall, people are shifting how they are responding to marketing and sales tactics. We will unpack this with today's guest, who is an expert on revolutionizing how we treat marketing sales and money mindset, especially with my women entrepreneurs.

Melanie Aubert is a corporate dropout turned multi-seven figure CEO. Over the past three years, she has helped hundreds of women entrepreneurs rise to six- and seven-figure incomes by dismantling outdated marketing and sales tactics. Coining the phrase "where massive impact meets big checks," Melanie has introduced a uniquely feminine, soul-led approach to business.

In this episode, we cover...

  • The new era of selling
  • Shifts to make if you're feeling unaligned with your selling
  • The critical difference between circumstantial power and personal power
  • Where most entrepreneurs get stuck
  • Actionable steps around money mindset

"The new era of selling, and what I'm referring to when I say that is we've entered a phase in the digital space where we are now buying what we want and not what we need. This is why people don't invest in the fitness coach and buy the new iPhone, right? People will buy the $1,000 pair of sneakers and not pay their mortgage or rent. We go above and beyond when it comes to desire. Then we don't do the things that we need to do."

"When we're in a state of trying to recalibrate, relearn, grow and scale our business, we are gonna have moments of absolute fear where your brain will try to seek out and grab on to something predictable that from the past, like a failed launch, or, you know, someone calls you stupid, or whatever that thing is. We'll try to place that in the future to make it feel like it knows what to anticipate."
