Should the Dallas Stars Employ a Rotational 4th line? How to Survive the High Fly Vancouver Canucks!

The Dallas Stars and Pete DeBoer have been deploying a rotational fourth line as of late with Radek Faksa, Craig Smith, Sam Steel and Ty Dellandrea. In years past, the fourth line has been very consistent, but is it time that some guys must earn their way into the lineup. Joey believes it may be time to give the trio of Steel, Dellandrea and Smith some time to fester, it's been a small sample size, but that line ranks best in terms of goals percentage and goals against per 60. It's no secret that DeBoer wants more offense out of his depth and maybe he's found it. That conversation leads into a preview of the Vancouver Canucks. The first meeting was a 2-0 shutout in favor of the Canucks in a game that was dominated by Thatcher Demko. The Canucks lead the league in goals scored at 5 on 5 and have multiple players having phenomenal years. Stopping Quinn Hughes, Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser is no easy task, but must be accomplished to take them down. Also, Joey gives his Shooting Star pick fro tonight's contest. Finally, Diamond Sports Group, who owns Bally's came to an agreement with the NHL to allow Bally to broadcast all Dallas Stars games for the rest of the season uninterrupted. Joey gives his thoughts on streaming and asks how you consume Stars games and if it has been easy or hard since streaming has become so prevelent.

What is on your Dallas Stars Christmas List for this season? On today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey gives his top 3 wishes on his list which include a right shot defensemen, returning to a shutdown defensive team in terms of goals against and for Wyatt Johnston to get out of his scoring slump. It's no surprise the Stars need another defensemen, but with only one righty playing on an everyday basis, another body could potentially have Miro Heiskanen or Thomas Harley play on their strong side that could do wonders in their own zone and possibly an uptick in offense. In past seasons, the Stars have ranked in the top 5 in goals against average, as of right now they are 14th.Wyatt Johnston has not scored a goal in 11 games, the Stars offense has not dipped because of it, but if he gets his scoring touch back it will could lift them too new heights. In the 2nd segment, Joey touches on the Stars defense providing offense in the month of December. He provides some support to why it's important that the group continues to produce in order for them to get where they want to be. Even Jani Hakanpaa and Esa Lindell are finding points along the way. Finally, how about that performance from Mavrik Bourque for the Texas Stars last night. Bourque scored all four goals in a 4-3 win for Texas including the OT winner. Of course, Logan Stankoven assisted on three of the goals as both are the top two scorers in the AHL.

Thomas Harley and Matt Duchene connect in overtime in back to back games to defeat the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 last night. Duchene now leads the NHL with six game winning goals and Harley is tied for goals by defensemen with nine after his tying goal late in the 3rd period. On today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey begins the discussion about Thomas Harley becoming a young superstar right before our eyes. What he's doing in his first 28 games is remarkable in terms of goal scoring, he's tied with some of the best defensemen in the game and he's playing almost six minutes less and has a severe difference in power play time. Once again, Jim Nill has hit a home run with this pick and he has been everything the Stars have needed this season on the backend. The conversation then switched to Duchene who continues to prove he's the best value in the NHL. Joey compares other players with similar salary's to show the stark difference in play the Stars are getting with Duchene. He's been a saving grace recently for Dallas and you cannot overstate how huge of an impact he has had 30 games in. Joey then explains his main takeaways from the Vancouver game including battling back when getting punched first and being much more sound as a defensive unit in their own zone. Also, Scott Wedgewood is playing lights out and is holding the fort down since Jake Oettinger went on the IR. The show finishes off by highlighting the amount of depth and balanced attack the Stars have this season. Dallas now boasts six players with 10 goals or more, the first team in the NHL to do so this season. This is a stark difference in years past and that could be the key factor to getting them over the top.
