About the Host, Mike Edward (All Seasons Trailer)
Living with Chronic Mental Illness
05/16/23 • 1 min
Today’s a brand new day to work on your life and make better choices.
My name is Mike and I love to write poetry, make music, and work on my mental health podcast.
Officially, I am diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder (depressive type), and I see a psychiatrist and take several medications, both of which help me to have a life.
I am married. My wife and I live a quiet existence, and enjoy spending time with our three dogs.
Regarding my mental health podcast, I discuss ways in which I am coping from day to day and week to week. Each episode is approximately 5 minutes long, and the podcast is called, “Living with Chronic Mental Illness.”
As far as making music goes, I write full-fledged songs. I do this periodically. I write lyrics, sing them, and create backing tracks.
I am sharing this bit of information about myself, with the hopes that my story is helpful to someone, somewhere.
So, please subscribe to and share “Living with Chronic Mental Illness,” which is available on Apple, Spotify, and wherever you get your podcasts.

The Business of Personal Relationships
Living with Chronic Mental Illness
09/19/22 • 8 min
There is nothing more gratifying than being a part of the kind of relationship where both parties contribute.
However, there are few things more difficult for many individuals with a chronic mental illness than starting and maintaining a connection with someone—and having that be a healthy connection.
Things like a lack of time, resources, insight, vulnerability, and other life issues are often the causes of failed relationships for many—let alone someone battling a chronic mental illness.
So, where does that leave those of us managing our chronic mental illness (with the constraints so many of us seem to face)?
In this episode, I tackle how I’ve made progress in my relationships—all kinds of them—and where the ones that I’ve maintained are at today!
I address what it means to be that person who generally needs the help—and getting the help—without leaning too much on my personal relationships!
I share how I won over the kind of people I’ve always wanted in my life, and what each friend I’ve made (and decidedly kept), means to me.

The Living With Chronic Mental Illness Podcast documents the story of my atypical mental illness. It’s my journey to managing chronic schizoaffective disorder. Season 2 Trailer
Living with Chronic Mental Illness
10/24/22 • 0 min
Season 2 is coming November 7!
“This is the story of how ignorance lost its bliss."
What does that mean?
Well, the old saying is ‘ignorance is bliss,’ but is it really?
I’ll get to that in Season 2, but for now...
There is a case to be made for getting treatment for one’s symptoms or complaints. And, not pushing them aside for another day.
For a lot of people, that’s easier said than done. So, we self-medicate, we isolate, we do everything within our power to maintain the status quo.
In Season 2, we will discuss "Self-knowledge."

The Kid who Frowned and Worried a lot
Living with Chronic Mental Illness
09/19/22 • 8 min
It’s tough being a kid—any kid!
And, a lot is going on with kids at each stage of their development.
In this episode, I talk about what it was like for me as a depressed and anxious adolescent.
I was the youngster who frowned and worried a lot, which doesn’t signify the end of the world, but it should have been a red flag!

Those Awkward Teenage Years
Living with Chronic Mental Illness
09/19/22 • 5 min
Teenagers. Those unique and oftentimes awkward creatures that seem to have all the experience, and know infinitely more than everyone else.
In this episode, I tackle those awkward teenage years of mine, whereby I had all the answers to most of life’s problems.
NOTE: Bullying will never be okay no matter what the situation! And, my experience with bullying is more than likely NOT the same as the next person’s. So, please understand that I know this, and that again, bullying is never okay!

The Self-medicating Years
Living with Chronic Mental Illness
09/19/22 • 5 min
In this episode, I take on the problem of drinking, and not knowing who is and who isn’t going to emerge an alcoholic.
So much of drinking, from my perspective, is self-medication.
And, we have an alcohol problem in high schools, on college campuses, and in the homes of too many adults, here in the United States.
My country’s drinking problem makes it difficult to tell who is fine, who isn’t fine, and who will be fine.
So, for me, getting help is the key—but, you’ve got to identify who needs the help—not to mention, who wants it; and what are they prepared to do in order to succeed.

Skeezer (Mental Health Music / Please refer to the show notes for more info)
Living with Chronic Mental Illness
09/07/23 • 2 min
For this bonus episode, I submit to you a song I wrote. The term "Skeezer" is NOT meant to be derogatory. It's a word that a friend of mine has affectionally touted around for years (and, it seems to have stuck)! I hope the crux of the song is helpful and gives everyone hope.
The lyrics:
Full disclosure, I’m mentally ill. Don’t ask me how I do it. I just do it. I do my best each and every day.
When someone says we all have something
They’re not wrong, but there’s often layers that are troubling
It’s not a comparison game, but it is a bit more serious
To have schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or what have you
And, act as if it’s nothing
Skeezer (And, I’ve Got the Papers to Prove It)
What on Earth can I do about it?
Well, I’ve done things that many only dream of in my situation
Taken up hobbies, where some give back and some help to express myself
Skeezer (And, I’ve Got the Papers to Prove It)
What does that mean exactly?
It means, for me, I am struggling a bit more most days
But, I try and I have hope to get through it
No matter what they say, I fight. Not always good. Not always bad.
SOLO
I take my medication I take it fast and quick
Twice a day, 10 pills, all just for this
Yes it could be worse, I could be unmedicated, and in fear all the time
Instead, I am medicated and in fear only half the time
Skeezer (And, I’ve Got the Papers to Prove It)
What on Earth can I do about it?
Well, I’ve done things that many only dream of in my situation
Taken up hobbies, where some give back and some help to express myself
Skeezer (And, I’ve Got the Papers to Prove It)
What does that mean exactly?
It means, for me, I am struggling a bit more most days
But, I try and I have hope to get through it
No matter what they say, I fight. Not always good. Not always bad.
20 years in and I’m still doing my best. Fight on. Fight on. Fight on.
