As flames billow out of the establishment’s door, the backdraft carries a singed flier past a sobbing throng of the conflagration’s few survivors. On it is printed a photo of a young smooth-jazz virtuoso whose name is still whispered by music historians across the nation: Kensington Hawthorne.
