Late Starters Club

If you think it's too late to start a blog or write books, then you need to listen to today's episode. I interview Mark Schaefer, who hadn't written a single blog post until he was 49. Now he has a highly acclaimed award-winning marketing blog.

He hadn't written a book until he was 52, and now he's just coming out with his 10th book. Many of them have been amazing award-winning bestsellers, translated into lots of different languages. His newest book "Belonging to the Brand" is being released very shortly!

We'll dive into how he stays relevant and continues to create amazing content in today's ever-changing marketing landscape.

Mark Schaefer is a marketing strategist, keynote speaker, university educator, and bestselling author of "Marketing Rebellion," "KNOWN," and "Belonging to the Brand." His blog {grow} is hailed as one of the top marketing blogs in the world.

Here is a glimpse into the episode:

[3:17] What decisions lead to Mark starting his blog later in life? And what did that lead to?

[6:33] Discover the two things that got Mark over his fear of speaking (and no it's not picturing the audience in their underwear).

[9:15] What is the secret to Mark's success? (Its something you can do to!)

[11:38] What can you do to stand out now that everyone can write good content with the help of AI?

[12:46] What does Mark tell us all to do to stay relevant in our current fields and how can we take a different look at what we offer the world?

[19:50] In order to do so much is Mark a workaholic? Or is it something else that lets him accomplish so much?

[22:24] What has inspired Mark to take up watercolor painting?

[25:56] What inspirational quote is something that Mark returns to again and again? ==========================================

45: Ways to Monetize Your Content - Quick Fix Friday

Are you a content creator and you want to make a little bit more money from your content? Or are you thinking about starting a blog, a podcast, or a YouTube channel, and aren't sure how to actually monetize that? Then listen in to today's Quick Fix Friday, where I talk about three ways to monetize your content.

There are basically three main types of monetization strategies.

  • One is to create your own product or service and use the content as the draw to let people know about that product or service.
  • Two is to use affiliate programs to advertise or showcase someone else's product or service, and you get paid a commission if someone were to buy that product or service with your special link.
  • Three is sponsored content. This is either ad placement that is within your blog, your podcast, or your videos. And that's basically a payment you get based on views or the number of listeners. Payment doesn't depend on someone actually buying that product.

Listen in as I dive a little bit deeper into all three of these strategies, and I'll give you some examples.

47: How to Create Content Consistently- Top Takeaways from Mark Schaefer

In today's market creating consistent content is one of the cornerstones that will help you become more well-known in your field and help you build your personal brand. In episode 46, my friend Mark Schaefer talked about how creating consistent content helped him publish 10 books, an award-winning marketing blog, and a podcast. In this episode, I am going to dive into 5 tips that I have to create consistent content.

Here are my 5 tips for creating consistent content:

  1. Don't make writing a decision, it simply is an activity that you will complete.
  2. Work in advance. Don't try to sit down and write on the day you want to publish.
  3. Defend your time. Once you have set aside time to create content don't let anything get in the way of that time. Creating content is just as important as any other aspect of your marketing.
  4. Keep a running list of ideas so you can pick and choose the ones that are speaking to you when you are ready to create.
  5. Find ways to make content creation faster and easier for you.

I will give you more details on how to accomplish each of these in this episode. So let's get started!
