Last Exit on Mainstream

In which our hero talks s*** about a plane crash which inspired a movie.

In this extra episode and companion to our recent Stallone series I wanted to expand on the story behind the movie Cliffhanger, which I briefly mentioned a couple of times in those episodes.

It's tale of a plane crash high in the mountains, of the world finest rock climbers and Hollywood's need to change absolutely everything!!

Climbing Gold - Dope Lake - a wonderful 4 part podcast about the events I briefly get into

Valley Uprising - A truly great documentary about the history of rock climbing in Yosemite Valley

-----------------------------------------

Last Exit on Mainstream is written and produced by Rob Jones and Jamie Onolfo and is part of The Lone Wolves Collective

"it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward" - Copland and the search for credibility

In which our heroes talk s*** about phoning it in, reboots and chasing critical acclaim

In our final episode about Sylvester Stallone we talk about what happens when a star begins to fade and after a run of financially successful movies in the 90s, Stallone goes looking for credibility with Copland. We look at other instances of career pivots and comebacks and also at Stallone's post Copland career of rebbots and sequels, before chatting about his recent run on TV with Tulsa King

This is the 4th and final episode in our Stallone miniseries... previous episodes have covered the Netflix documentary "Sly", the impact of the "Rocky-verse" and Stallone's place in the pantheon of 80s action heroes

In which our heroes talk s*** about social media.

Repost from 2023

We've changed the format of the podcast since we first dabbled with it in 2023 but i feel like the conversations we had then are still very much in keeping with the general feel of the show and in particular this episode we recorded in March 2023 about the Netflix documentary "The Social Dilemma"...time may have moved on but the presence of social media and it's impacts continue

I (Rob Jones) sat down with Jamie Onolfo to watch the 2020 Netflix documentary "The Social Dilemma".

Rather than a scene for scene review of the documentary, this is a more of a conversation informed by the topics raised in the film.

We get into our history with various social media platforms and how our relationship with social media has changed over time and then some of the issues raised in the documentary - Addiction, Surveillance Capitalism, radicalisation, trolling and the impacts of social media on traditional media.

Finally we discuss what we think the future hold for a society so influenced by these platforms and also for the platforms themselves as the first waves of users grow older and the next generations come through.
