Kiwi Birth Tales

In episode 95 of Kiwi Birth Tales I speak with Emily about her two pregnancy and birth stories. Emily first talks us through her unexplained infertility journey, falling pregnant spontaneously after 1.5 years, Emily is also a Midwife so it is interesting hearing about this from her perspective. Emily gave birth at 36 weeks to Harry, she had planned a homebirth but as she went into labour early she delivered in the hospital and had a drug free birth in the bathroom.
Emily goes on to explain her breastfeeding struggles and adjusting to life as a Mum.
Emily then talks us through her second pregnancy, at the 12 week scan there were clear abnormalities and eventually determined that Trisomy 18 was the cause. Emily and her family made the decision to have a medical termination and she talks us through this experience, including giving birth to Oliver and how they celebrated his life.
Emily is honest and open sharing her experiences with us all and I am so grateful she did - the stigma that exists around her choice was another reason why she wanted to share as she knows she may be able to help someone in a similar situation.
Thanks again for joining me on the podcast Emily.

Ep94: Jess & Roman - Young Single Mum, Difficult Birth Experience, Forceps and Episiotomy, Postnatal Mental Health Journey

In Episode 94 of Kiwi Birth Tales I speak with Jess about the birth of her son Roman.
Jess is a single mum in her early twenties and she takes us through her journey to motherhood, her traumatic birth experience in which she felt she wasn't prepared for and ended with an episiotomy and forcep delivery, her stitches were put in too tight and they have caused her issues ever since.
Jess talks through the guilt she felt around her birth, the advice she received from different providers about breastfeeding, an undiagnosed diary intolerance and trusting your 'mum gut'.
Jess is wise beyond her years and I'm grateful she was willing to share her story with us all.
