Are you giving yourself a hard time because you feel like you can't eat intuitively perfectly, you don't feel as good about your body as you know you could, or you can't let dieting go? Do you feel guilty for emotional eating, or for wasting years dieting? Do you feel like you've let yourself go? All thoughts and feelings that come up often for people transitioning out of dieting and into intuitive eating and body positivity.
Let me help to explain this for you, and give you some ideas of how you can think of these things instead.

30. Let's talk about junk food

Junk food, urgh, I hate that term. Junk implies that it's rubbish. Have you stopped to think though that all food, when broken down, has plenty of nutrients that our bodies can use? I'll explain why that is, give you some examples, and encourage you to use the term 'play food' instead of 'junk food'.
And yes, I've even managed to sneak in a reference to Friends. Remember when Joey tried to say he was "sorry"........?

It's almost an impossible question to answer because everyone is different, but there are reasons why you might put on weight. Those reasons aren't bad, weight gain isn't bad, and weight gain isn't even inevitable. This week I'm talking about all of this.

This week I'm talking about what influencers are showing you, what they're not showing you, and how I use their posts to inspire my meals. I'm also discussing how it can be difficult to incorporate their suggested meals into your day, and how so many of these food suggestions just don't suit you. I had pizza for breakfast too - that wasn't inspired by an influencer!

26. Is your body a house or a home?

Do you live in a house or a home? No, I’m not talking about the building you are in, but the body you are in. Have you settled into it and made it yours, or are you seeing it as a pit stop, constantly trying to change it, and as somewhere to wait while you get the new one ready?
I am talking more about the things we don't do when we are plus-size, have yet another rant about clothes shops, give you a message from a listener whose husband takes the photos of models and superstars, and talk about going out partying with friends when you feel like the fat one of the group.
Thanks also to Maddie Deakin for the inspiration for the house or home analogy this week. It's stuck with me for a long time!

29. When is a diet not a diet?

We quit a diet and say we're not dieting any more, but are we really still dieting?
We start a new plan, maybe one that says you can eat whatever you want with no restrictions, so that's not a diet...... or is it? This week I'm talking about how if there are still restrictions, rules and limits to your plan it's still a diet, and how you may think you've quit your diet but your behaviour says you're still very much in a diet mentality.
I'm having far too much fun with the Family Fortunes buzzer sound, thanking my first Buy Me A Coffee supporter, talking about what's coming up in the group coaching sessions in November, and telling you how I skipped lunch and didn't die! I know, crazy right?

24. Where your diet club membership fee really goes

Slimming clubs are essentially MLM businesses, that's multi level marketing. So people at the top earn money from the people in their chain below and from their sales. The diet consultants are being rewarded with cars, holidays, fancy awards nights, ego massaging. This is where your membership fee is going. What it's not paying for...... any kind of consideration of your health.

31. Does being in a bigger body affect blood pressure and cholesterol? With Aisling Daly

This week I had a conversation with Aisling Daly, primarily about blood pressure and cholesterol? We looked at how being in a bigger body affects them both, and what you can do in your diet to help rather than just prescribing weight loss.
Aisling is a Registered Nutritionist with the AfN, specialising in Public Health Nutrition. She has a BSc in Human Nutrition and an MSc in Nutrition for Global Health, and is currently completing her PhD focussing on adolescent nutrition and eating behaviours. She also lectures in nutrition and works one to one with clients. This breadth of experience gives her a wide understanding of the importance of nutrition for health along with the challenges individuals face in understanding and applying public health guidance to their own individual situation. She has recently expanded her knowledge in the anti-diet approach, is HAES-aligned and applies intuitive eating into her practice, helping people improve their relationship with food and their body.
