This is probably one of the most popular topics I get DMs and emails about. I totally get it, because making friends as you get older is tough stuff! I'm calling in my dear friend Kristina Rodulfo to chat about this: She's the beauty director at Women's Health (and your new BFF!). We rap about tips for making friends and best-practice strategies that have worked for both of us. We also talk about the importance of not having surface-level relationships, and how to know when you should walk away from a budding friendship that may not be serving you. Plus: Things to remember about your friends who ~may~ be in relationships, and how to navigate being friend dumped.

I never thought that I'd move to Brooklyn. Ever. But, here we are. I've never been more sure of something in my life, but that doesn't mean I'm not scared and experiencing ALL of the feels. In today's episode, I'm talking you through a teary-eyed run I had on Thursday, and sharing where my head's at going into a huge transition.

PROMPT: When was the last time you felt equal parts scared and excited?

Welcome Lottie Bildirici, new author behind the cookbook Running On Veggies: Plant Powered Recipes for Fueling and Feeling Your Best to the show! Appropriately, Lottie's talking to us about fueling for better performance, from what you should be eating before a workout to what the threshold is for fueling during one — and post-sweat nourishment too. Plus, why hydration needs vary from person to person, and what are the staples that we should all be keeping within our pantries, fridges, and freezers, regardless of dietary restrictions.

The Class, which is often described as a workout for your emotions, really helped me through some tough times — specifically during the pandemic. Today, I'm chatting with its founder and CEO Taryn Toomey. Truthfully, the first time I went to The Class, I thought it was bizarre. But as Taryn and I talk about in episode 178, I wasn't really ready to surrender just yet to what it had to offer. In methodology, it's kind of like a combination of cardio and Pilates. But really, it's so much more than that. Taryn tells me how she developed this style of workout, and details how she herself leaned into fitness and yoga in her early years in New York to navigate some tough times. Plus: The benefit of putting down technology to come back to center, how to have a healthy relationship with movement when it's your emotional outlet, and where The Class is going in the future.

Hurdle - 177. Aly Orady, CEO & Founder Of Tonal
play

09/27/21 • 70 min

On the morning after Christmas in 2013, Aly Orady decided to change his life. Prior to this #hurdlemoment, the then-child prodigy had graduated high school at 15 and college at 19, then worked at a series of tech companies including Hewlett-Packard and computer startup Pano Logic where physical fitness was the last thing on his priority list. In today’s episode, he details this turning point which lead him to losing 70 pounds and creating TONAL. Of course, we get into all of the Tonal specifics today: what it is, how it has evolved, and how it works. But what I find so inspiring about this conversation is learning about Aly as a leader and the hard work that went into building this company from the ground up, Including relentless self-belief and loads of lessons along the way. We also talk about what’s to come for the company in the future. Let me just say: The day before Aly and I sat down to record this IRL in the studio, I stopped into their new showroom on Fifth Avenue in New York, and I was blown away.

Today I’m talking with Lori Harder. She’s a self-love specialist, host of the Forbes top-rated podcast ”Earn Your Happy,” founder of the bliss project, author of A Tribe Called Bliss, founder of Lite Pink, a new spiked seltzer company — yeah, she does a lot. Her story is super inspiring — raised in a very small town with an extremely restrictive religion, she struggled with depression, obesity, and being bullied by the other kids. As she came into her own, she decided to go after what excited her: Fitness. Thus she began competing in fitness competitions, striving to win top honors and land major magazine covers. After years in a destructive industry, she made a massive pivot into the self-love arena, working with women to help them harness and appreciate their big potential. In today's episode, we talk about everything from how she grew her multiple businesses to her biggest tips to coming into your own power.

Definitely didn't expect to get caught in the remnants of Hurricane Ida over here in New York on Wednesday, but alas, I did. Telling that story on the show today, and offering up a beautiful silver lining that came from the chaos.
