021 | Marketing TWO Brands Without Losing Your Mind with Julianne Mahoney
05/21/20 • 63 min
How should we market products and services differently on Instagram? Today, we're chatting with social mapper Julianne Mahoney about just that!
Julianne owns not one but TWO businesses (and she somehow finds the time to run Instagram accounts for both!) She's a dietitian who focuses on intuitive eating for adventurous women AND she hand sews artist-designed sustainable climbing gear on the side, and so today, I wanted to invite her on the show to chat about what it's like to market these two very different businesses on Instagram and share her best tips for managing it all without losing her mind.
Here's a breakdown of our chat:
[16:03] What's the difference between marketing products and services?
[19:05] Tips for marketing two different yet similar businesses on IG...
[25:21] How to bring your values into your business and actually make a difference for your community and the world...
[30:40] Charging what you're WORTH and not listening to the haters...
[38:17] How Julianne used Instagram to begin collaborating with 30+ artists...
[43:22] Tips for setting boundaries for Instagram (so you don't get sucked in!)
[47:06] Planning content for TWO accounts (and how to cross-post!)
[53:13] THIS one thing has helped Julianne see the most success on Instagram...

022 | 8 Inspirational Black Educators You Can Learn From Today!
We need to take action, Feel Gooders. There are times when doing the right thing doesn't necessarily feel good. It can feel scary, uncomfortable and uncertain, but it's necessary. You cannot hide right now. You cannot make excuses right now. You have to hold space for this. You have to act. You have to be willing to make a mistake. Because you will make mistakes and you won't do enough, but staying silent is worse. Non-action is worse.
I will not pretend to have all the answers surrounding this. I have so much unlearning and learning to do myself, so I'd like to point you to a few of the resources I have found helpful and encourage you today to educate yourself on this topic and take action.
Now I before I share, I want to reiterate what this amazing woman Dani said in her IG live series. She shared a list of her favorite educators (some similar and some different than those I'm sharing with you today), but she also insisted that we take the initiative to learn from the resources they've already created.
Right now, so many amazing black educators are being bombarded with all of the same questions, and it's exhausting. As Dani said, there are so many resources already created and available, so we need to take the initiative to learn from these before we ask direct questions.
Here are several amazing educators and activists of color who's content I've found helpful:
Danielle Coke is @ohhappydani on Instagram - and she's amazing! Go watch her Turning Awareness into Action (a 3-part IG Live series) where she speaks about how to approach racism by working upward, inward and outward.
Ibram X. Kendi is @ibramxk on Instagram. He's the author of several books including How to be an Anti-Racist, and he was the guest on Brene Brown's Unlocking Us podcast this week!
Rachel Cargle is @rachel.cargle on Instagram. Her content is very enlightening and actionable! Watch her Public Address on Revolution: Revolution Now here!
Nikita is @craftedtothrive on Instagram, and she's a business coach for creatives! She also has a podcast called She's Crafted to Thrive - so that'd be a great substitute today!
Layla Saad is @laylafsaad on Instagram. She's the writer of the best-selling book Me and White Supremacy and the host of The Good Ancestor podcast.
Sonya Renee Taylor is @sonyareneetaylor on Instagram. She puts out a great number of videos on Instagram where she's speaking the truth.
Deya Patterson is
