Problems With Technology Everyone Should Know

Nobody can deny the fact that technology has introduced a lifestyle of convenience. From instant communication and constant information at your fingerprints and entertainment, technology is incredibly advantageous.

However, it does come with its disadvantages. After hours of texting and using smartphones for entertainment, we are finally reaping the consequences. From walking into fountains to vehicle accidents and backaches, these problems are unique to constantly hunching over your smartphone all day.

Many would like to blow off the consequences that follow after bending over your smartphone all day. However, the dangers are a reality that we are dealing with. Hence, regardless of how technology has improved our lives in unimaginable ways, it does have its problems.

Our children, who spend most of their day hunched over digital devices are the mot affected.  Learning about the potential dangers and problems will help parents take proper steps to protect their children. Below is a short list of the problems of technology that we have been teaching in our Elizabeth City, NC Chiropractic office for years.

Tech Neck

Otherwise known as texting neck, tech neck is a problem that is common among heavy smartphone users. It’s also common among people whose profession requires long hours of sitting behind a desk or a computer. This is because, the aforementioned situations often require the individual to extend their head and neck too forward, resulting in an uncomfortable posture.

When in this posture, you force the muscle in your neck to contract so as to support your head. In other words, you’re forcing your neck muscles to work overtime to support a 10-12 pound head. Hence, your neck muscles will end up being sore and tense.  Additionally, the stress placed on your neck will work itself to the spinal discs and neck discs as well, wearing them out. As a result, the discs will eventually rupture and cause chronic pain and even neck immobility.

Hunched Back

Whilst using technology, we tend to sit a lot, which is understandable. The last thing we want is to be using our smartphone while trying to cross the road at the same time. Yet, technology has encouraged a sedentary lifestyle, where we sit all day and barely move our limbs.  This places pressure on our back and spine, which can encourage the wear and tear of the spinal discs and tissues. No wonder most of us complain of back pain. Also, sitting all day will only lead to increased weight gain and a shorter life- span.

Dry Eyes

If you’ve been overusing your smartphone or laptop, your body is bound to get affected. Our bodies always let us know when something is wrong, and this is once instance that we need to start listening to it.

Whilst sitting in front of a computer, we tend to blink fewer times than we ought to. This causes our eyes to dry out, become red and even itchy. Try and lubricate your eyes while taking frequent breaks from the screen.

Exposure to EMFs

Another danger of technology that simply cannot be ignored, is the exposure to electric and magnetic fields (EMFs). We are exposed to EMFs by simply using appliances such as microwaves, computers, and smartphones.

Today, we use our phones and computers almost every single minute of the day. This means that our exposure to electric and magnetic fields is higher than it used to be a couple of years ago. According to the numerous studies that have been conducted, there’s a possible link between EMFs and cancer.

If you notice that your ability to concentrate has dwindled or are experiencing constant headaches, try and take frequent breaks from your computer or phone. Other symptoms to look out for include dizziness, anxiety, depression, restlessness, fatigue and sleep disturbances, just to name a few. In conclusion, if you are experiencing any of the aforementioned problems/symptoms, be sure to visit a Chiropractor for effective treatment.

How Chiropractic STRENGTHENS your immunе ѕуѕtеm

Chiropractic recognizes thе inherent аbilitу of thе humаn body tо regulate itself and adapt tо thе mаnу рhуѕiсаl, сhеmiсаl, and emotional stresses thаt confront uѕ in еvеrуdау lifе. Thе bоdу'ѕ ѕtrеѕѕ response is dеѕignеd tо ассоmmоdаtе temporary сirсumѕtаnсеѕ thаt rеԛuirе a 'fight оr flight' rеасtiоn. A good example is tо imаginе a wild animal is сhаѕing уоu. In thiѕ ѕituаtiоn, thе body hаѕ tо рriоritizе thе funсtiоnѕ that аrе needed most.

These rapid changes rеѕult frоm the rеlеаѕе оf large аmоuntѕ оf hоrmоnеѕ, knоwn аѕ саtесhоlаminеѕ (е.g. adrenalin) and соrtiѕоl (ѕtrеѕѕ hormones).
