
#1.32 Discomfort change = Happiness!

This week, coach Julia Seal dives into the topic of Change and Change Management as it applies to us and changing ourselves on our happiness coaching journey.
We explore why change is hard, why we believe "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" and we find out why it's just so difficult to stick to our goals, our New Year's Resolutions - why we're not like Billy Ocean's song "When the Going gets Tough..."!
Discover how we continue to add to our unhappiness and emotional suffering every day just by resisting the Reality of Change. How resisting the reality of impermanence, one of Buddha's 4 Noble Truths, gets us stuck in the Circle of Chaos and Pity City. Knowing how and why our brains resist change holds a key secret for us.

In this Q&A for our negative emotions coaching journey, we look at Inner Power and Powerlessness: what to do to balance power and when to intervene in unhealthy conflict and toxic behaviours at home and work.
We discover why powerlessness is at the root of all this toxicity and what we can do about it - for ourselves and for others.
Firstly, Coach Julia Seal, looks at exactly what's happening in our brains when we're in relationships where power is abused, exploring what's happening whether we are Victims or Persecutors. This guides us to use the best response of all, taking The High Road, balancing the power. Here, we discover the magic of the whole thing: we need be the only ones to do this, no matter who is indulging in Contempt, Criticism, Blame, Defensiveness or Stonewalling!

Then, Julia looks at powerlessness and what to do if you're a manager or HR and have to intervene to "sort out that difficult person". She explains how to intervene in unhealthy conflict effectively from a coach's perspective that includes some intriguing ideas: cleaning up the inside of your brain, getting yourself to neutral, activating your inner wisdom as well as the power of role-modeling and the art of invitation into change. You can end Kindergarten-like conflict behaviour!
