#23: The ASK Challenge—The Super Power You Forgot How to Use
07/09/20 • 30 min
You know the book Green Eggs and Ham? You probably feel like you have a good grasp on the lesson from that book—it's about trying new things and not limiting our options based on assumptions, right? But do you know the other lesson from that book? The one that's often overlooked? The second and maybe even more powerful lesson from Green Eggs and Ham is to ASK. And ask persistently. Sure, Sam-I-Am seems annoying at first. But isn't he the reason the other guy finally tries the Green Eggs and Ham? The one who helps him discover something he loves? Asking is the super power of Sam-I-Am.
Kids have this same super power..."Why?" "Are we there yet?" "Why can't I stay up?" "Why do I have to...?" We often laugh about how annoying it can be when kids ask the same questions over and over. But asking is the key to unlocking the world. It is the super power to discover truth, get what you want and help others do the same. That's the hidden lesson from Green Eggs and Ham.
So when did asking questions become taboo? It seems that somewhere in our experience the majority of us were taught, either directly or indirectly, that asking questions means your dumb. This could not be further from the truth.
In this episode we explore the power of asking and introduce a NEW CHALLENGE! It's time to start asking for what you want. Like our next guest, The Blind Blogger, Maxwell Ivey puts it "If you don't ask, they can't say yes."
When was the last time you simply asked for what you wanted? When was the last time you piped up and asked the question in a meeting or class? It's more than likely other people in the room had the same question. What have you been hoping for but have been too afraid to ask for?
