Imagine this: You're in an airport bathroom in Reno, Nevada. You're feeling crampy and cranky because it's that time of the month, so you reach for a maxi pad. What you see when you open the package angers you, enrages you really; so much so that you decide to stop and write an open letter to the company that made said maxi pad.
That's pretty much what happened to Wendi Aarons. And it was the very thing to begin to change the trajectory of her life. The award winning humorist, writer, opinionated tweeter and self-proclaimed Fanilow is now a published author (her first two books written when she was 54). Her book I'm Wearing Tunics Now: On Growing Older, Wiser and a Hell of a Lot Louder is a stroll down memory lane for any Gen X woman finding her way -- and herself.
About: Wendi Aarons is a writer and award-winning humorist whose work has frequently appeared in outlets like McSweeney’s and The New Yorker, among many others. She is the author of the middle-grade novel Ginger Mancino,
Kid Comedian, SOCKS from Chronicle Books, and a contributor to the Listen to Your Mother: What She Said Then, What We’re Saying Now and Keep Scrolling Til You Feel Something anthologies. She is a popular speaker and teacher on humor, and lives in Austin with her family. And her tunics.

This might not only be one of my all time favorite podcast conversations... but one of my favorite conversations — period. If you’re ready to get real... raw and work through some of the pain you’ve been holding onto, THIS is the episode for you.

But don’t be fooled — it’s also filled with a whole lot of laughs and some seriously colorful language. So headphones are a must if you’re at work or around the littles. 'Cause in this episode, we #sharetheshit

Those who know me best know I am a huge fan of uncomfortable conversations. (I’m sure there are some who don’t love that about me.) But I feel that growth and connection comes from rolling up our sleeves and getting comfortable being uncomfortable. On this episode, I invite three women I admire greatly for a conversation about race as a woman (and sometimes mom) over 40. How can we better understand each other? What's the best way to take action? Join us for an honest conversation that's meant to help us understand each other and work together to improve our neighborhoods, communities and beyond. About Wendy Rose Berry:

Wendy Rose Berry (CEO) of conditionHER, a company that promotes only the best care for down there.

With their new intimate skincare line, they are also hoping to break down the associated taboos by sparking and elevating the conversation surrounding intimate care.

Wendy is a mom and self proclaimed “employed entrepreneur.” She's a Manager in TV publicity for a major entertainment company with an entrepreneurial spirit and innovative ideas, most of which are still sitting in notebooks waiting to be activated, but the idea for conditionHER is one she and her business partner just couldn’t let go. Welcome to another episode of Thrive in 40, a quick tip to kickstart your week in 40 seconds or less.

In this episode, Jennifer Tracy, writing coach and host of the MILF Podcast, shares her tip to get out of your head and reconnect to your body.

Something I didn’t know or learn until I was in my late 30s was how not in my body I was, just really walking around in my head and my thoughts and not in touch with the wisdom of my feminine body. And so once I did learn that through a form of movement, it changed everything, it changed the way I told my stories, it changed the way I stood in my own story, so I just wanna invite you wherever you are to put your hand on your chest where your heart is and breathe. Just feel into your body and continue that through the rest of your day because she has wisdom to share with you and she has stories to tell.

Welcome to our very first episode of Thrive in 40, a quick tip to kickstart your week in 40 seconds or less.

In this episode, Psychotherapist Stacy Kaiser shares her top tip to help us boost self esteem, motivation and feel happier. We all want that, right?

I find that women have a bad habit of beating themselves up. They proverbially take the baseball bat and beat themselves up if they're not happy with themselves. And what that actually does is it lowers your self esteem, impacts your ability to be motivated, and it will ultimately impact your overall happiness. So the important thing to do is to tell yourself, okay, I don't like what I did, make the necessary changes so you don't do it again, and then focus on moving forward with your life.

Grown-Ass Woman's Guide - Puberty for the Middle Aged with Lisa Selin Davis
play

12/12/18 • 39 min

If you're a woman over 40, there's a good chance you saw the recent NY Times piece entitled Puberty for the Middle Aged. In it, writer Lisa Selin Davis compares peri-menopause to puberty in a way that has women talking, sharing and tweezing their facial hair.

I invited Lisa onto the show to discuss the piece and why it resonates so strongly with women in midlife. What I didn't expect was the story behind the story where Lisa was badgered (and ultimately ostracized) by a community of her peers.
