Episode 190: Trimming the Holiday Fat
Grace & Grit Podcast
12/07/19 • 23 min
There is often a disconnect between what we believe the holidays are about and how we actually go about living them.
We say we believe the holidays are all about love, peace, gratitude, and connection, but we don’t make time for those things. Or, we are only partially present.
Instead, we live the holidays stressed, fatigued, overwhelmed, resentful, and frustrated. Worse yet, we use the rational that we are doing it for others.
But here’s a hard truth... if mama ain’t happy, no one is happy!
If you truly want to enjoy the holiday season this year and roll into the New Year feeling energized and ready, check out this episode of the Grace and Grit Podcast.

Episode 097: Big Arms, Big Life w/ Kourtney Thomas
Grace & Grit Podcast
12/23/17 • 50 min
A LOT of women come to work with me because they want to lose weight, and weight loss can be a powerful initial motivator but it often isn’t weighty enough to carry people into long-term health. So I ask my clients, WHY do you want to lose weight, and what lies underneath is typically something that speaks to them wanting to live a bigger life. They want more confidence, they want to move more freely, they want more self-respect etc. So you can see that just having a goal of becoming smaller can feel at odds with living bigger.
Well, my guest today, Kourtney Thomas, whose mantra is “Big Arms, Big Life” has a knack for helping women reconcile this type of conflict. In prepping for this interview, I read the following excerpt on Kourtney’s website, which made me all the more excited to interview her today:
“I played small, I stayed small. Eventually, I experimented with embracing bigness physically, and that led to the ability to create a bigger life than I ever imagined. While I did work through what it felt like to take up more physical space, my mindset changed right along with my body, what I really learned was that building big arms was always about more.
It’s not just about the arms, and it never was. It’s about exploring the possibilities. Shedding old stories, and writing new ones. Bigger muscles, absolutely. But really, bigger choices, and bigger voices.”

Grace & Grit Podcast
08/05/17 • 58 min
The Grace & Grit podcast is dedicated to helping women expand their definition of health because deep health isn’t a look, deep health is a way of being that extends far beyond the narrow conversation of just food and exercise.
Sure, as women, we all want to look good, but we also want to FEEL good and, most of all, we want to be happy. And finding our happy isn’t about adding MORE “to do’s” to our life. Often finding our happy is about being true to ourselves, granting ourselves permission to slow the heck down and honoring the things our body, mind, and soul are telling us. Finding our happy also has a lot to do with hormonal balance.
And my guest today, Melissa Ramos, has made art of helping women to do all of those things. I have been following Melissa for years, and I have witnessed her message of hormonal and digestive health spread like wildfire... as it well should. She shares great information with humor AND she walks her talk.
Melissa Ramos is a nutritionist with a background in Chinese medicine and the founder of sexyfoodtherapy.com, where she helps women heal their hormones and digestion for healthy ovaries (and poops).
If you struggle with PMS, difficult periods, fibroids, endometriosis, menopausal symptoms, or digestive health issues do not miss this episode!

Grace & Grit Podcast
12/10/16 • 35 min
I am currently in the throws of teaching a new program this year that is really geared towards helping women maintain a high level of self-care during the holidays, and it is really something I should have started years ago. I was compelled to start this program because, every year during the holidays, I see women struggling more than any other time of the year to maintain their health standards.
They start putting their own self-care on the back burner to keep up with the demands of the season.
They allow boundaries to be crossed and far too many compromises around their own health to be made.
They do it all by rationalizing that they will do better come Jan 1. But ...
January 1 comes and women are exhausted and sick (literally), because of all of the negotiating they did around they holidays, so they fail to do better. It is a painful cycle to watch, and I have had to watch it for too many years. Every year I joke that I am going to take February off because people are so crabby and bitter and sick, and I really believe a lot of that stems from what has happened around the holidays.
So...At 6am, every day for 1 month, I have a small but mighty group of women showing up on a live coaching call with me because they have committed to not losing themselves within the pile of stress & consumption that shows up simultaneously with the joy and celebration of the holidays.
And I wanted to extend a bit of holiday support to you as well, so today I have invited back to the show, my friend and nutritionist extraordinaire, Sara Bradford to discuss some of the specific challenges that show up around this time of year and how we can navigate them more successfully.

Episode 226: 3 Steps to Infuse Your Life With More Life
Grace & Grit Podcast
02/13/21 • 30 min
I don’t know about you but, I don’t just want to live my life, I want to rock my life.
And to do that I need to stay honest with myself about when I am in need of recovery, restoration and revitalization.
But aren’t those the same things? You might be wondering:)
No.
The wellness industry tends to focus on recovery, which is oh-so-important, but it also isn’t enough to live your best life (with a strong dose of enthusiasm).
Tune into this episode if you are someone who wants to shape your life into the most vibrant experience.

Episode 229: The real work of deep health.
Grace & Grit Podcast
03/27/21 • 34 min
Is it just me or does it feel like “weight loss” is the loudest conversation in the women’s health arena?
It drives me nuts! Why?
For a few reasons:
- A woman’s weight doesn’t really tell you a damn thing about the state of her health.
- Health is so much more than how much weight a woman carries on her body.
- Even if excess weight on a woman’s body is causing health challenges, the answer is not as simple as weight loss.
In this episode of the Grace & Grit podcast, I share two topics that really define the work that I do in the world as a health coach: deep work and deep health.
If you are ready to explore women’s health beyond the “weight loss” conversation, do not miss this episode.

Episode 199: Customizing Your Journey Back to Health with Mary Miller Brooks
Grace & Grit Podcast
03/21/20 • 49 min
The diet industry is a multibillion-dollar industry that has sold people on the notion that “what works for one person will work for everyone”. And it has failed, miserably.
Wellness is not a cookie-cutter formula that can be applied to every human. In fact, the path that will return a person to a state of well-being is as unique as the individual who is pursuing it.
In this episode of the Grace & Grit Podcast, I have invited my friend and nutritionist extraordinaire, Mary Miller Brooks to the show, to discuss why it is so important to customize the journey back to health.
We cover a lot of ground, discussing things like:
- gut health
- thyroid health
- food mapping
- sweating as a detox mechanism
...and so much more!
