Thomas grew up in the DFW area. As a teen, he met his future wife at a church event and the rest is history. They have now been married for 16 years. Tommy played football and went to SAGU (Southwestern Assemblies of God University) in Waxahachie where he played football.
As a kid growing up, he didn't have aspirations to be a police officer. After college he was working for a moving company and decided he needed to find a career with a pending family. He sought out policing and got hired by a local police agency. He attended the regional police academy where he met and trained with current GPPD officers. He completed training and worked at that agency for about 11.5 years.
A few years ago, he lateralled to GPPD for a change of pace and more opportunity. After being here a few years, he took the Sergeant test and was one of only three people to pass the sergeant test. So despite being relatively new with GPPD still, the department took 3 supervisors so he promoted!
SERGEANT Tommy is on nights now where he has been for a year now as a supervisor. He is going good work and is a testament to hard work and taking opportunities! We are lucky to have him for sure.

Chris grew up as a military brat, living all over the globe.
He got involved in law enforcement in 2011 where he worked for a sheriff's office (detention) for about 3 years. Chris then joined DPS as a Texas State Trooper for a few years. He transferred to the DFW area where he worked around Ellis County. He knew some GPPD cops and decided to apply.
Chris joined GPPD in 2019. In his time here, he has been in patrol, a Drone Pilot, a SWAT Negotiator, and is currently a School Resource Officer (SRO).
Chris is a proud husband and father.

Chad grew up NOT in the city, but on a 100,000 acre ranch. Needless to say, he learned quite a lot about animals, fencing, and country living.
Chad later joined the Marine Corps (USMC). After getting out, he went to college and got his degree. He then became a professional bull rider competing on the PBR. After breaking most bones and getting impaled by a bull through his head/face, he met his wife (while injured). Chad then pursued his goal of law enforcement. Chad became a state trooper up north for a few years. He then came to Texas and joined another local agency (shoutout APD). After doing a few years there, he came to GPPD. He has been with GPPD since 2014. In his time here he has been in patrol, a Field Training Officer (FTO), Honor Guard member, and part of the Mounted Unit.
Chad lives the country life where he has numerous animals on their 13 acres of land. His is currently breeding 1/2 Angus and 1/2 Wagu cows which will be some tasty meat!

This week our hosts sit down with Courtney and Emily. Both are licensed clinicians who are a part of our Mental Health Unit at GPPD.
Their daily duties are quite varied here at GP. They do many follow-ups, welfare checks, and even respond to in-progress calls with officers. Both also assist with critical incidents and special operations negotiations. They also help internally with our officer's mental health and wellness to keep everyone healthy mentally.
Emily earned her masters in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington and focused her studies on mental health and substance use disorders. Emily is a licensed master's social worker and is currently working toward obtaining her hours for clinical licensure. She works for Grand Prairie Police Department in the crisis support unit and is a co-responder with a law enforcement officer. Emily serves first responders in private practice and is EMDR trained. She has experience working in community mental health and was a crisis Interventionist for a local mental health authority for several years. Emily provides Crisis Intervention training, Mental Health Peace Officer Training, and other specialized training to local police departments.

Courtney earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master of Science in Psychology from Texas A&M Commerce. Courtney is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor through the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. She is also a Certified Anger Resolution Therapist and trained in EMDR. Courtney currently works as the Crisis Support Supervisor for the Grand Prairie Police Department. She is a crisis interventionist and a liaison between law enforcement and the community. She is the Peer Support Coordinator for the department, working to assist in promoting officer wellness and resiliency. She is a trained hostage negotiator and serves as the mental health professional on the Grand Prairie Crisis Negotiation team. She has experience working with chronically mentally ill adults, persons in crisis, and persons affected by trauma.
They both come from a long line of service professionals and we are glad to have them!

This week our hosts sit down with Detective David. He came to GP with no prior LE experience and has been a cop now for 9 years. He worked patrol where he was a FTO for many years. He now serves as a property crimes detective in investigations, while still being a member of our SWAT team for many years now.
David talks about his family and the path that he took to get into law enforcement. He also discusses the importance of treating everyone with dignity and respect. He shares some funny stories as well in answering calls and assisting with backgrounds.

Officer Tanner is known around here as "Sweet Tea" or Sweet T". Sweet Tea had an interesting journey to become a cop for us. He worked in our jail for a few years. He then got hired at another local PD where he worked for 5+ years and ended up being a Motor Jock (traffic unit on a motorcycle) for a bit.
Tanner then lateralled back over to GPPD as an officer. He has been an officer with us for about 2+ years now. He just recently got to dayshift patrol as well.
Sweet Tea is an interesting character for sure. He shares some wild stories working in the jail and some interesting experiences as an officer as well. Plus, with a name like Sweet Tea, you know he has good stuff to say!

This week the hosts sit down with Dyllon. He grew up in New Hampshire and found his way to Texas after college. After graduating college, he was hired on as a basic recruit officer with GPPD in 2016.
Dyllon worked the streets for a while then went to become a Detective in Domestic Crimes. After doing that for a couple of years, he felt the calling back to hit the streets to serve and protect the community.
He speaks of his challenges growing up and his journey to find himself and his calling, to serve. He even talks about writing himself a ticket once!

Eric Acha was born in the Phillipines. He moved to America in 1980 with his family and settled down in California. In 1994, he had the wild idea to become a police officer and pursued that dream. He had an interesting journey in being a police officer and not being a US Citizen at the time. He then got his citizenship and continued to fulfill his desire to serve in Law Enforcement.
He held many roles and responsibilities in over 22 years in law enforcement. He started a Jiu-Jitsu school in the SF Bay area which he ran full time post retirement. Due to shifting political waves, he later moved his family to Texas for a new start around 2021. He now owns operated JJ Machado DFW in Colleyville, TX
They speak of his journey and path growing up and then in LE. He also gives insights into his martial arts journey and speaks of the importance of Jiu-Jitsu training for officers.
He is a proud husband and father of four girls.

Jeremy had an interesting path to get to GPPD. As much as we hate to admit it, he was a firefighter and medic before. However, he came to his senses left to come to Team Blue!

Jeremy was born and raised in California. He went to UC Santa Barbra for college. He got into videography and photography where he then worked in the film industry in CA. He had his own company and went to Houston for a project. He liked it so much, he stayed in Texas!

He was looking for a change of careers and got a job as a medic in the Houston area. After doing the FD/Medic thing for a few years, he wanted more. His passion was policing so he applied for GPPD and the rest is history.

Jeremy is into health and fitness, in fact so much that he recently competed in an Iron Man competition (which is nearly like 3 Triathlons...no thx!).

He is currently on nightshift where he serves and protects!

Fidel (the 3rd) was born in Puerto Rico and came to the US when he was four. His dad joined the Army and he lived the typical army brat live moving all across the country. Fidel went to four different high schools in a two-year period. After high school he enlisted in the USMC where he served in the infantry. He did four years and deployed twice to the Middle East.
After getting out of the military, he got into government contracting for twelve years and worked all over the global with DynCorps and Triple Canopy. During that time, he had three girls as well.
He later joined GPPD where he has been with us for about six years. In that time, he has worked patrol and is a current SWAT team member.
They share some funny stories of his report writing journey and riding around in the car with Nate while in FTO. Fun fact about Fidel, he is the longest tenured Blue Belt at GPPD in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu where he has held that honor for 12 years now (at Blue Belt).
