S2 E9. Acorns Don't Fall Far From The Tree; DIII COY, Steve Koudelka & Brandon Childs, Part III.
04/17/24 • 32 min
In this third and final installment of our discussion with two DIII Coaches of the Year, Steve Koudelka of Lynchburg and Brandon Childs of York, we round out our interview series with several intriguing questions.
We start off hearing what exactly these two highly successful coaches look for when they are recruiting student-athletes for their programs. They review what skills, levels of athleticism, and intangibles they are looking for year in and year out.
Coach Childs discusses how he was fortunate to have a PLL All Star, Paul Drenner, on his staff for three years at York. What impressed him the most was how Drenner's teaching style was primarily focused on sound fundamentals and some other elements you'll want to learn about in this podcast.
After some prodding from co-host Ron Dalgleish-the Big Dawg, the coaches discuss the benefits of DIII lacrosse. The smaller school, the stadium right on campus, the exciting atmosphere. Letting players play in a more relaxed, free flowing environment and many more mentioned inside the interview. All this along with another round of our rapid fire recruiting questions. Yet again, another episode you will not want to miss.!

S2 E8. Acorns Don't Fall Far From the Tree; DIII COYs Steve Koudelka & Brandon Childs, Part II.
In this second installment, of our three part interview series, with two DIII Coaches of the Year, Steve Koudelka and Brandon Childs, we get into brass tacks regarding college lacrosse recruiting.
Coach Koudelka describes how his opinions were formed over many years by lacrosse greats such as Dom Starsia and Dave Urick. He also elaborates by describing a key age for players to really hone their skills and it's probably not the age you'd imagine.
Of course, Coach Childs reveals his secret sauce but also goes onto describe what it is about Coach Koudelka that has not only made him successful but how he has imparted that knowledge to former players and assistant coaches which has resulted in what many have described as the most impressive coaching tree in DIII lacrosse.
These two also give us a peek behind the curtain so to speak as they give us some insight into what college coaches do for fun and how their competitive juices flow even when they're not on the job.

S2 E10. Chemotti's Web; The Spider's 2X Conference COY & His Iron Lattice of Consistency, Part I.
We are excited to bring you the first installment of our interview series with two time Southern Conference Coach of the Year, Head Coach of the Richmond Spiders, Dan Chemotti.
In this episode we delve into Chemotti’s early years as the son of a high school basketball coach, with an older brother who played both basketball and lacrosse, growing up in the Syracuse area of Central New York.
Dan describes how he went on to play lacrosse for the legendary coach Mike Mesere at nearby perennial powerhouse West Genesse High School and how he became the Central New York player of the year as a senior.
Next we discussed his difficult decision to leave home (and an offer from Syracuse) behind and go to Duke to play for Mike Pressler and a young coach Joe Alberici. While at Duke he would help the team win two ACC titles and make it to the NCAA quarterfinals twice as he was elected captain of the team in his senior year.
We review how he came to the decision to pursue a career in coaching and go in depth on the influence his coaching mentors such as Coaches Mesere, Pressler, Alberici and Charlie Toomey had on this decision. This is a jam packed episode that you won’t want to miss. Sit back, enjoy, and take it all in!
