At the end of recording this podcast episode we had a real moment of ‘why would anyone want to listen to us’ moment. Yes, we still get them. Even though thousands of people tune in every week (what the heck... this still blows our minds, and thank YOU for listening).
But this episode, in particular, we kind of just rambled on about our thoughts. What was going on in our lives this. Maybe you’ll get something from it, hopefully, you will! Hahaha.
The crazy thing but, after this moment of who are we to think people want to listen to us, we had 2 messages on Instagram from amazing women telling us how much they loved the podcast. So thank YOU. Those messages meant a lot and they might even be the reasons why we hit publish on this episode.
This episode is about creating your own space, your own bubble away from the rest of the world. Must say, upon reflection, it comes from a world of privilege, as not everyone can escape their world. We wish we mentioned that on the episode... butahhhh lessons from self-reflection are a magical thing.
We also get on the topic of taking that path that is less travelled. The freshness of getting away from your routine and knowing that your path less travelled might actually be a path that is well travelled.
Stuff we talked about...
- When you step out of your usual routine, you have more space for ideas to flow in.
- Reading someone’s book can take you into another world, another bubble.
- Go inwards and ask yourself “what do you know you need to do that you’re not doing?”
- If you feel like you’re travelling on someone else’s path, then you’re not on the right path.
- As you grow and get older, you begin to learn more about yourself and the world around you.
- There’s no reason why we can’t experience something different in the confinement of our homes.

This episode is Part 5 of our 10-part snack-sized Yoga philosophy series on the Yamas and Niyamas. Aparigraha is the 5th Yama which translates to detachment or the idea of non-hoarding, not keeping things or grasping on to things. Let's look a little bit deeper and think bigger about this idea of detachment.
We go far deeper into these Philosophies inside our 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. You can learn more about our Yoga Teacher Training program over here. If anything within this Yama and Niyamas Series sparks your interest we'd suggest to follow that spark... you never know where it may lead you!
This is what we spoke about during the episode
- Our buying and consuming habits have gone too far for our planet.
- The practice of detachment allows us to enjoy the journey and become more present. The journey is the goal, not the destination.
- Nischala Joy Devi translates Aparigraha as acknowledging abundance. Take a moment to feel gratitude for the great blessings that surround you.
- This practice of Detachment turned our lives and beliefs upside down in an amazing way!
- If you're just joining us, we recommend starting from Part 1 to fully experience the logical flow of these yogic philosophies. Here's a quick recap: We've covered Ahimsa (non-violence), Satya (truth), Asteya (non-stealing), and Brahmacharya (proper use of energy). Listen to:
410: Embracing Ahimsa | The First Step in Our Yamas Series
411: Discovering Satya, the Power of Truth | Yamas Series
412: The Practice of Asteya in Modern Life | Yamas Series
413: Exploring Brahmacharya in Everyday Life | Yamas Series

Have you stopped exercising? What do you think and feel when we mention exercise? Does it create a sense of dread in your body? Do you feel a hint of guilt or shame because you don't exercise? It's something you know you should do but you just can't stand it... so why would you?
Maybe the word exercise instantly brings back horrible memories. You slogging away on the treadmill. You getting picked last on the sports team. Maybe it reminds you of your continual 'failing' of health kicks. Maybe you just think about all the fit/beautiful/slender Instagram models and influencers in their perfect active ware and you feel completely inadequate.
Yeh. We get it. We see you, we feel you. We love you (true freaking story).
When you stop exercising it's hard to begin again.
But it is possible to begin again and it's 100% possible to create a way of exercise that you love.
Stuff we talked about...
- Stop being so hard on yourself!
- Get out of the toxic world of exercise. There's another way!
- Focus on your technique! Don't bash your body, don't go too hard too soon.
- You don't need perfect activewear... far out you can work out in your undies.. PJs.... yoga pants with holes.
- Realise you're not alone if this struggle.

- How it's natural for humans to make excuses and procrastinate. But it doesn't mean it's a good thing!
- The most common things we all make excuses for: exercise, work and career success, relationships, social life, eating healthy, family time, learning and development... oh wait. Everything.
- How we do one thing is how we do everything!
- How to stop procrastinating and stop making excuses.
- What are the most common excuses? No time, too tired, not educated enough, I have to look after the kids, born in the wrong era, not enough money, there's too much competition - so no point to start, I'm on this path and have dedicated so much time to it - I can't change, I am stuck in my ways, don't have support, not smart enough, not pretty enough, NOT ENOUGH.
- Accept where you are right now, stop dwelling on the past you CAN NOT CHANGE IT! Focus on what you can do right NOW to create a brighter present and future.
- Do the important stuff first. Work out what is actually important, what are your core values (not what you SAY they are what do your actions say your values are?).
- Get organised, batch work, schedule workouts, get accountability.
- Let go of perfection.
- Get rid of non-required distractions eg. aimless social media scrolling, TV time.

182: don't take things so personally
Get Merry
04/09/19 • 32 min
- If someone is rude, quiet, in a mood... it most probably won't be anything to do with you and no, you don't need to fix it... maybe they need space.
- If you're sensitive or an empath (like us!) it's very easy to take things personally.
- When you take everything to heart not only does it make you feel down it also takes up so much of your precious time.
- Are you hopeless at taking criticism, even constructive criticism? TUNE IN!
- Space is your friend. But don't take space and think about the person who offended you! Connect to you.
- Get inspired to change your mindset and 'step behind' your feelings.
